S T Andrew Plant Hire Handicap (Div 2)
Class 5 | 1m | Soft (Heavy in places) | 14 Runners | Turf
Off time: 14:07:00 | Winning time: 1m 44.89s
Lightly raced for his age, but has proved more than capable over 7f-1m, and looks certain to appreciate the forecast wet conditions; runner-up at Chepstow latest (6/4f) following a five month break.
Appreciates some give underfoot (three-time winner on good to soft), and was in-form this time in 2017 when gamely repelling Save The Bees by a head at York (1m2f); reasonably solid fifth at Chester on Saturday.
Had some smart form in France but hasn't lived up to that since joining current connections for €48,000; has plummeted in the handicap, but lacks much in the way of racing experience beyond 7f.
Twice a winner over C&D last back-end (on soft and heavy), but has achieved precious little since. His run style is very much a case of all or nothing, and whether he's quite the same horse as 12 months ago (aged nine) is a moot point.
Not the most consistent for previous trainer John Spearing, but ran well on just his second start for this stable (and of the calendar year) at Kempton recently, finishing 1L third to Dark Side Dream; fine with cut, so couldn't be discounted.
Has enjoyed a massively productive campaign, with course form figures reading 2,1,4,1. 6lb higher than when beating Lucky Violet by ½L over 7f here last month; respected, albeit requiring further sustained improvement in order to score again.
No disputing that he has favourable conditions based upon his old German form and his more recent experiences with Jonjo O'Neill; on a perfectly fair mark if Keith Dalgleish can work the oracle.
Beaten narrowly by Coviglia over 7f here last month (good), but has won both subsequent starts at Musselburgh (1m); carries a 6lb penalty for her Class 4 success on Saturday.
Left Tim Easterby for 12,000gns in October 2017, and is yet to strike for Michael Dods. However, is back to his last winning mark from almost exactly 12 months ago, and that success came over 1m on heavy ground at Carlisle.
Both of his career wins have come at Ayr (1m-1m1f), and also with some ease in the ground; there or thereabouts from a similar mark in each of his last four starts, including when runner-up to Zeshov at Musselburgh latest (1m, good).
Stablemate of Stanley; a regular here during the summer but always found one or two stronger, including Lucky Violet (second) when filling the frame behind Supaulette (7f, good) last month; beaten a short-head on soft since (Carlisle).
Hasn't quite kicked on since scoring at Hamilton in June (1m+, soft), and the cheekpieces are now applied from a still competitive mark; not wholly exposed after just nine starts, but others are more convincing.
Just one win in 18 starts, and has his quirks. Solid effort when a neck second over 7f here two starts back but that was on quick ground, and he faces different conditions today.
Stablemate of Chinese Spirit; has made his last six racecourse appearances at Ayr (7f-1m2f), and the clear outlier in that otherwise modest sequence was when winning over 1m1f in May (50/1); risky with prowess on soft ground untested.
Carnageo (13/2), Donnelly's Rainbow (13/2), Weld Al Emarat (7/1), Chinese Spirit (15/2), Stanley (8/1), Glorious Poet (9/1), Saryshagann (12/1), Inglorious (12/1), Ventura Secret (12/1), Coviglia (14/1), Lucky Violet (16/1), Jay Kay (16/1), Sioux Frontier (25/1), Pudding Chare (50/1)
