Took record to two from four latest over 1m1½f at Kempton but both wins come on AW and turf efforts less inspiring. Excuses can be offered however so too early to declare him an AW specialist and remains open to improvement.

1m Newbury winner in July ran well the next twice over 1m2f finishing second at Newbury again and at Goodwood before lesser efforts over 1m4f and 1m6f the last twice. Gets 2lb back now and this trip seems ideal so merits respect.

Yet to add to debut win at Lingfield in December and while running fairly well of late he hasn't seriously threatened. Distant third of five at Goodwood suggested an extra 1f here would suit but others have stronger claims.

Off the mark on belated return at Kempton (AW) but had to settle for second as favourite there subsequently on handicap debut. Same mark today and open to improvement with turf form here at two proving surface switch no issue.

Landed first two handicaps at Windsor and Newmarket over this trip before getting outpaced here and eventually plugging on for fourth. More needed off the same mark but still respected for top yard.

August C&D win one of three successes this term but uncharacteristically out of sorts latest although genuinely soft ground possibly the excuse. 5lb higher than win here but improving profile makes him hard to ignore.

Handicap debutant ran with plenty of potential here over C&D in second start when second before fifth when short of room at Newbury. Lengthy absence since but could be better than this opening mark in time.

Doncaster winner (1m2f) returned from a break here when second having led inside the final furlong over C&D. Raised 3lb for that run but seems to be on the up at present and could strip fitter too so has to enter calculations.

Leicester winner in May has only had three races since with a decent second at Newbury sandwiched between two modest runs. Had a break and more to prove than most here.

1m2f winner at Nottingham under this jockey hasn't performed to that level in three starts since but returns to winning mark now so should do better and yard won this race last year with same jockey.

Forecasts

Dawn Dancer (7/2), Knight Errant (4/1), Whitlock (9/2), Enzemble (7/1), Monoxide (7/1), Sergio Leone (9/1), Thunderbolt Rocks (10/1), Paddy The Chef (12/1), Janabiya (14/1), Sweet Charity (33/1), Lawn Ranger (40/1)

Verdict

DAWN DANCER ran well here on return when lack of a recent run possibly caught him out late on. He can make amends now with fitness likely boosted. Monoxide is an interesting recruit to the handicap ranks and looks almost certain to prove capable off this mark although he hasn't run since July. Paddy The Chef is interesting back to a winning mark for last year's winning connections.
