The hat-trick bid was thwarted by a tardy start when a close up third here (6f, good) last month, but he gained amends when making all to land a 5f Beverley nursery (good to soft) by a head; up 6lb, so a career best is required.
Keeness counted against him on AW/nursery debut at Chelmsford (6f) in July, but that could prove to be an asset at this track over a reduced trip (and from an inside berth); relatively solid overall.
Recorded a second straight win when scoring over C&D in July, beating subsequent Roodeye scorer (and today's rival) She Can Boogie by a head; ran well enough on nursery debut at York (third) despite being a beaten favourite; realistic chance.
Five of his six starts have come at this track (5f-6f), with a commanding 4½L novice stakes win (in June) the standout; solid sixth in a competitive 6f York nursery latest; respected, but with the ability to handle softer conditions an unknown.
Made all at a modest gallop to down hot-pot Moyassar at Haydock (6f, good to firm) in August, and is well-drawn to attack from stall one. Finished well behind Gabrial The Wire at York (penultimate), but only nailed close home on the AW (5f) latest.
Knew her job early doors and capitalised upon that fact to win twice on turf by the end of March (5f soft and 5f heavy); has had limited opportunities to show her worth since, beaten almost 8L on AW nursery bow at Kempton (6f).
Beaten a head by Deputise over C&D in July (received 11lb), but was an authoritative winner on nursery debut (again over C&D) just a fortnight later; has a realistic chance of following up despite her 5lb penalty and the softer ground underfoot.
Has plenty of early pace, but will need it from the widest draw of all; 5f Beverley winner (good) on his penultimate start, but put firmly in his place by Gabrial The Wire over C&D earlier on in the season (albeit now 9lb better off).
Runner-up in a modest 5f novice at Nottingham in April (good to soft), and hasn't shown any sign of obvious improvement since (including on Ffos Las nursery debut); dropped 3lb; remains unconvincing as a four-race maiden.
Forecasts
Rockin Roy (5/2), Dave Dexter (11/4), Deputise (6/1), Izzer (6/1), Blyton (7/1), Gabrial The Wire (10/1), She Can Boogie (14/1), Packington Lane (33/1), Tizwotitiz (66/1)
A race which won't be for the faint-hearted; likely to be run at a breakneck speed throughout. A number of these horses have previous course or course and distance experience, including DEPUTISE and She Can Boogie, who fought out a good battle in July with just a head to separate the pair. The Tom Dascombe-trained runner (also saddles Blyton) gained amends by scoring on nursery debut (C&D) just a fortnight later, and consequently both horses should be in the shake-up here despite the slower conditions underfoot. Dave Dexter is solid and has a decent draw in stall two, whilst you'd be foolish to dismiss Rockin Roy despite a career best being required.
- Deputise
- Dave Dexter
- She Can Boogie
