Blows a bit hot and cold but hard to catch from the front on a going day. Handles all ground and if repeating his York second two starts back, would hold chances. All depends on him getting an easy lead.
Good effort at Newmarket in August when third to the improving Porth Swtan (good to soft) and will appreciate the drop back to 1m after seemingly finding 10f too far last time. Not out of this.
Often well fancied to land decent handicaps and went close at Ripon last time (in a better race than this). Conditions look ideal here and the uphill finish shouldn't be any issue. Chances of finally getting on the scoresheet.
Had been running okay in handicaps before taking advantage of a big class drop to take a Beverley claimer last time. That will have done his confidence some good but the form is nothing to write home about. Needs more here.
Looking very well handicapped these days but that's down to a series of very moderate efforts and hopes are now pinned on a visor to turn things around. Looks very risky at present.
Couple of wins over this trip in the summer but since then has looked in the grip of the handicapper, although this drop back to a mile will at least help. Has won on soft in the past but seems happier on quicker these days. Others preferred.
Only seen out twice this year and last of nine on latest start here last month hardly inspires confidence in him today. Biggest plus point would be his ability to handle heavy ground, which he goes well on. Risky all the same.
C&D winner here early last month and didn't run badly in a better race than this at Hamilton last time. Handles all ground, stays well and if refinding earlier form, isn't out of this despite the handicapper giving him more to do.
Didn't do badly at Thirsk last month, third in a similar handicap to this, and although he blew out at Goodwood last time, and any horse can be forgiven a bad one there. Worry would be the heavy ground but simply too well handicapped to ignore.
First start for new yard after racing mainly in France (although did chance his arm in the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot), form appears to have tailed off this year and is best watched today.
Forecasts
Just Hiss (7/2), Elusive Heights (9/2), Royal Shaheen (5/1), Lamloom (7/1), Brother McGonagall (15/2), Withernsea (8/1), Dream Today (12/1), London Protocol (16/1), Le Chat D'Or (20/1), Ballymount (22/1)
After a few near misses JUST HISS can finally get his head in front under conditions that suit. This looks a little easier than a few of the contests he's been in and he can get on the scoresheet. Royal Shaheen might be next best, with Le Chat D'Or a possibility if he can wind the clock back to something approaching his best form.
- Just Hiss
- Royal Shaheen
