Handicapped to have a say as a dual previous C&D winner (Class 5-6), but has posted a trio of moderate efforts since his close up third to Buyer Beware over C&D in July.
Back to winning ways at Musselburgh recently (1m4f+ good), beating third placed Trautmann (now 2lb better off) by almost 1L; effective anywhere between 1m1f-1m4f; fair chance.
Won for the first time in 12 months when making all to justify favouritism and take a 1m2f Ripon seller (good) last month; stiffer task back in handicap company, but with fair form at Thirsk in the past, this sharp track could suit.
Took time to break the maiden tag, but was denied a 1m4f+ Musselburgh hat-trick by Archipeligo last month; 2lb better off today, and still just 2lb above his last winning mark, so has to be there or thereabouts at a similar sharp track.
9lb lower than when winning a 1m4f Newbury handicap for Ed Walker in June 2017, and has served notice that recent wind surgery might've proved beneficial; not disgraced when a staying on 3L fifth to Albert Boy (runs earlier) at Thirsk latest.
Sole win came over 1m on Fibresand at Southwell (off this mark); has made the frame on each of his last two starts at Beverley (including over 1m4f latest); also has form tied in with Archipeligo, so shouldn't be dismissed.
Six-time winner from 53 starts, but fallow so far in 2018; campaigned mainly between 1m4f-1m6f these days; drops back slightly in trip after finishing 8L third to The Knot Is Tied at Redcar last month.
No win since July 2017 (1m6f Redcar); but sits on that winning mark and was only headed close home (28/1) over C&D latest; enters the reckoning if able to reproduce (not a given).
Fair overall career strike-rate (10-88), but kicking on in terms of advancing years and isn't the force of old; 2L runner-up in a Beverley seller (1m4f, good to firm) latest, but that's not strong enough form for this contest.
1-29 (0-16 on turf); runner-up off a 4lb higher mark at Haydock in June (1m2f), but unable to back that up over 1m4f since (or over hurdles), so not overly difficult to dismiss.
Looked to be firmly on an upward trajectory over 1m4f at Ripon in mid-summer (form associated with Midnight Warrior); a shade disappointing thereafter until an improved run over 1m2f latest; difficult to assess, but Catterick will suit run style.
16-race maiden; finished fourth of nine (Lean On Pete second) in a 1m4f Beverley selling handicap latest; shouldn't prove anywhere near strong enough in this company.
Dual C&D winner (with cut); also finished runner-up on her last visit here in July (beaten 5L), and whilst that offers hope, evidently has work to do with today's rival Trautmann on Musselburgh form from July.
19-race maiden; has done the bulk of her racing over 6f-7f; don't be deceived by her second placed effort on her penultimate start - that was in a three-runner seller (1m4f) at Leicester; not considered.
Forecasts
Hilborough (9/2), Trautmann (9/2), Clenymistra (15/2), King's Coinage (15/2), Wotabreeze (17/2), Jan De Heem (9/1), Archipeligo (11/1), Fillydelphia (12/1), Airplane (14/1), Siyahamba (25/1), Lean On Pete (25/1), Midnight Warrior (25/1), Richard Strauss (33/1), Ejabah (100/1)
More competitive than the opening division in terms of likely winners with course specialists Wotabreeze and Fillydelphia worth noting. King's Coinage is another to consider from a handy looking mark. His performances have improved since wind surgery, and on his 3yo form for Ed Walker, he ought to prove capable of winning these sort of low level contests for Ruth Carr. However, this probably lies between Musselburgh foes Archipeligo and TRAUTMANN, with the Rebecca Menzies-trained gelding fancied to turn the tables on slightly better terms at a similar sharp track.
- Trautmann
- Archipeligo
- King's Coinage
