Impressive AW career statistics (10-36), and was a winner of the 7f Hibernia Steel race at Laytown in September 2014, so this surface holds no fears; massive chance with a top-rider booked off a modest turf mark of 72 (86 rated on AW).

Rediscovered his spark over the summer after joining Michael Bell, twice a winner over 6f on quick ground at Yarmouth; in new hands now and it remains to be seen how he takes to racing on sand; stablemate of Monumental Man.

Fair horse for previous trainer Kevin Ryan (all the way winner on heavy ground over 6f at Pontefract in September 2017); has gradually slipped down the weights since joining this trainer for 28,000gns, but needs the switch to sand to ignite a spark.

Reliable, tough and genuine, and twice a winner since May (6f-1m); runner-up at the Galway Festival in August (7f yielding/soft), has form on the AW (2-11), so foolish to dismiss lightly.

Saw off 27 others on his return to turf at The Curragh in May (5f heavy), but has somewhat paid for that success in handicapping terms; easing back to a more suitable mark now; twice a winner over 6f at Dundalk in the past.

His sole win came in a Down Royal maiden (5f good) in June 2016, with his best effort since when a shock neck runner-up at Dundalk (6f) in November 2017; more misses than hits overall, so opposed.

Regular Dundalk winner (7f-1m), but also the winner of this very race in 2017 when overcoming a slow start to assert close home and see off My Good Brother by ¾L; recent turf form has been competitive; much respected.

Bolted up (by 7L) in a weak maiden fillies race at Newcastle last winter, but in truth hasn't seen masses of racing since; her prominent racing style could suit this track, but it's unlikely there's too much to work with off her mark of 66.

Caesar's Comet11
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-7| J: D G Hogan| T: D Hogan| OR:  67| D
3/1
Left Paul Midgley after a significant punt went astray at Newcastle in March (7/1-7/4), but thrived for Peter Fahey, winning on debut at Fairyhouse in July (6f), and finishing second over 7f next time; makes his third start for Denis Hogan.

Forecasts

Caesar's Comet (3/1), Coreczka (7/2), A Likely Story (4/1), Togoville (6/1), Dance Alone (7/1), Letmestopyouthere (7/1), Captain Dion (7/1), First Bombardment (7/1), Monumental Man (10/1), Confrontational (12/1), Brave Display (20/1), Diable d'Or (20/1), Evies Wish (25/1)

Verdict

Competitive is the word which best sums up this race and should the first reserve A Likely Story manage to sneak in, it's probably an even trickier puzzle still. 2017 winner Coreczka and Dance Alone are closely matched on their clash at Leopardstown in July (7f) and both horses have a multitude of likeable traits. Captain Dion is slipping down the weights and could prove suited by this track (front runs), whilst Caesar's Comet is evidently blessed with a degree of ability despite frequently moving yards. Monumental Man and Letmestopyouthere represent team Osborne, but we'll opt for the handily weighted 2014 course winner TOGOVILLE.
  1. Togoville
  2. Dance Alone
  3. Captain Dion
