€14,000 yearling; never able to get competitive on debut (66/1) in a 6f Doncaster novice stakes last month; plenty of improvement needed for the step up in trip and AW switch.
Placed in a couple of bumpers during the spring (Kelso & Perth), but in the rear on Flat debut at Ripon (1m) last week, and couldn't be realistically considered dropped back to 7f on the AW.
Cost £230,000 as a yearling, but knocked down unraced for just £1,000 in November 2017; shown a consistent level of form since introduced to competitive action, beaten just 1½L by Juthoor at Thirsk latest (7f, good to soft).
Evidently is no stable star, but has a couple of pieces of form which make him a likely candidate, including when beaten just over 1L (third) by Amandine at Leicester (7f, good to firm) in July.
€10,000 juvenile; first foal out of a maiden dam who was a half-sister to the 6f Group 2 winner Always Hopeful; stable an unlikely source of winners in such races, but the market could prove helpful.
80,000gns yearling; clearly has had some issues with the stalls (often slowly away) but interestingly is a half-brother to the smart 5f-6f sprinter Wick Powell (a Newcastle AW winner); drops in trip/grade from Nottingham latest (beaten 14½L).
Tailed-off last of ten on debut at Redcar (7f) in May (80/1); absent since and impossible to consider on that admittedly limited evidence.
20,000gns juvenile; half-sister to 1m1f South African winner Cascapedia; slowly away, but kept on well late to finish just under 2L third to Missy Mischief on debut at Doncaster (6f, good to firm); obvious contender with natural progression.
Forecasts
Kynance (7/4), Burford Brown (9/4), Shawaamekh (9/4), Spirit Of Buxted (7/2), Hannitys Choice (50/1), Nearly There (100/1), Bevsboy (100/1), Wicklow Warrior (100/1)
Not a particularly strong maiden, but that'll be music to the ears of the likes of Hugo Palmer (Burford Brown), and Luca Cumani (Spirit of Buxted). However, the Newmarket handlers won't have this all their own way with both Kynance and SHAWAAMEKH appealing as equally likely types. The selection has been brought along steadily by Declan Carroll, and looks to be an excellent piece of business at just £1,000 (£230,000 yearling). Assuming that he handles the switch to the AW, his latest Thirsk second to Juthoor rates as the best single piece of form on offer.
- Shawaamekh
- Kynance
- Burford Brown
