Made all to win his penultimate start in a small field handicap at Doncaster. However, the gelding was well held from this mark at Catterick last month so the limitations are clear to see. Done no favours by carrying top weight.
Best form on the AW has been posted at Southwell and disconcerting that he seems to have gone off the boil lately - even a recent switch in yards has failed to rekindle his interest so far.
Won twice at Newcastle last year but looked badly in need of the run when he faded out of contention on seasonal debut here in July. Probably best watched until he shows signs of a revival.
Started 2018 off in good style with a couple of wins at Lingfield but has been in a steady decline since then. Dropping in the ratings as a result but lacks experience of this surface and notable that his stable has been unusually quite of late.
Rounded off 2017 with a win at Southwell but both turf starts this season have been below par - the latest of which was his first for his current yard. Needs to prove he's still in love with the game and he can up his ante when asked for effort.
Hung under pressure but still held on to win at Beverley last month. Raised 4lb but is relatively unexposed and, given that his breeding suggests an AW surface ought to suit, there may be more to come. Interesting contender over an ideal trip.
Given a fair rating of 78 but the gelding never managed to get competitive during his handicap debut. That was his first outing after a breathing operation, so feasible he'll be sharper for the run. Now 3lb lower and the betting can guide.
Forecasts
Fearsome (5/4), Great Beyond (3/1), Vision Clear (7/2), Second Page (10/1), Be Perfect (10/1), Restive (16/1), Lopes Dancer (25/1)
Doubts can be cast about most of these as the likes of Restive, Lopes Dancer, and Lopes Dancer all seem to have lost their way just now. Even VISION CLEAR needs to prove his Beverley win wasn't just a one-off performance. However, the gelding does seem to be on an upward curve at present and, as such, is given the benefit of the doubt. Be Perfect can help to set up a good tempo and looks the best alternative, while Second Page is possibly better suited now he returns to racing on an AW surface, so is worth a betting check at least.
- Vision Clear
- Be Perfect
