Winner of a couple of Bumpers and not disgraced on Flat-race debut when third over 1m at Kempton. One of the more wily contenders and worth considering despite having to give away all round.

Made an encouraging start at Lingfield but failed to build on that when well held at Kempton last time. Likely to do better in handicaps but worth a betting check nonetheless.

Ex-French gelding, yet to convince in three starts so far and already has improvement to find. At least has experience of this course but not sure to be suited by the drop in trip either.

Showed signs of temperament behind the stalls on debut so had a possible excuse for a modest effort. However, didn't really pick up when asked for effort near the finish and is hard to fancy on the evidence of that run.

Already put together a handful of consistent performances and seems to be versatile regarding the ground, so lack of experience of Tapeta may not be too much of an issue. Sound place claims again but the betting can be a good guide here.

Latest form figures read well on paper but the gelding (an expensive purchase as a yearling) has already been costly to follow. Sets the standard on the BHA ratings at present but doesn't appeal as one in whom to place maximum trust to deliver.

280,000 gns as a yearling but lacked sparkle on debut at Chelmsford at the back-end of last season. Trained by a past master at improving a three-year-old, however, and it would be no surprise to see a more accomplished performance. Shortlisted.

Went for 10,000 gns at the Newmarket sales in February but is bred to be effective on an artificial surface. The trip should suit and, given his yard is flying with a 40% strike-rate just now, the gelding merits a check in the betting at least.

Well-bred son of New Approach who has several winners in his pedigree. Got tired near the finish over 7f on debut last October but been given plenty of time to strengthen up and adds a further touch of spice to an interesting maiden.

Out of a half-sister to the speedy Sampower Star, the gelding was very green on debut and needs to improve dramatically on that effort if he's going to play a strong part. Looks the yards second string behind Gates Pass.
A half-sister to winning miler Spring Arrow who is out of a dam noted for her tenacity on the racecourse. Yard very quiet though and make struggle to make an impact on debut in such a competitive maiden as this.

Iffraaj filly that has shown little in two starts and may test the patience of her illustrious owners if she doesn't hit the mark before too long. Qualifies for a handicap mark after this and connections may have to revise more a long-term plan.

Verdict

An interesting maiden in which several hold the scope to make a small impact when they step into handicap company. GATES PASS certainly appeals on that score and looks the stable's preferred option on this occasion - Jamie Osborne's colt may well gain some reward for his consistency if the likes of Loveisili and Anchises fall just short of the mark again. Wajaaha is another that is respected but needs to improve, while Normal Norman has plenty of experience to draw from and, along with Boffo and Sajanjl, is worth keeping tabs on for future reference whatever happens.
