7f two-year-old winner for Richard Hannon yet to get competitive in two races for current yard although not disgraced in either. Handicapper offers further assistance but others still make more appeal.

Maiden of four races was a shade disappointing second as an odds-on favourite when last seen. Given a break since and steps into first handicap here. Mark looks high enough but is open to improvement.

6f winner at two was highly tried subsequently meaning opening handicap mark was well beyond him. Now some 17lb below highest handicap mark but recent efforts been far from inspiring so hard to fancy at present

Bolted up in an Epsom class six over 1m and soon followed up with Sandown class five win last time out. Up another 5lb now and this a further step up in class but going the right way at present so not one to ignore.

Maiden of six starts ran well in all four starts this term including in handicaps the last twice at Ascot (third of 17) and Haydock (fourth of 11). Not seen since May so may have had issues but if he's fully fit for return he should go close.

Maiden steps into handicap for first time after three races. Showed potential despite seeming quite slow to learn. Again looked like he wasn't the finished article latest when fourth at Kempton so could be the sort to improve now handicapping.

Built on two promising efforts when off the mark latest over 7f at Ayr scoring easily by 2½L. Should still have more to come particularly returning to 1m and trainer's raiders here always feared. Rated a leading contender here.

Verdict

An intriguing three-year-old handicap this and the unexposed GATEWAY gets the nod for the all-conquering Mark Johnston team. He displayed a likable attitude at Ayr and should have more to come with this return to 1m likely to suit. Christopher Wood is rated the main danger after some decent efforts earlier in the year and Michael Bell's gelding should strip fitter today after having a break before his last race. Bhodi is of interest and looks the sort who will reward Sir Michael Stoute's patience eventually, one suspects we haven't yet seen the best of this colt.
