Versatile in terms of trip (6f-1m), but his three wins have come on good ground or slower; beaten 2L by the subsequent winner Big Storm Coming off this mark on his penultimate start (7f Epsom, good to firm).

Beaten ½L by the dual subsequent winner Breanski over 1m here in June (good to firm), so has to be considered on that showing; found wanting in a couple of fairly decent Ascot contests since and eased 2lb in the handicap as a result.

Hasn't raced over 7f since December 2017, but has shown that he can compete over that trip (on the AW); handicap mark easing and a further 1lb lower than when runner-up over 6f here last month.

Largely consistent this season, and disqualified after winning a Class 2 7f handicap at Chester in June; eased in grade slightly today with conditions fine; not discounted.

In and out performer who has shown his best form on the AW (2 from 17); doesn't always give the impression that he gives his all, but has the required ability and is effective over 7f-1m.

Garth Rockettp,t27
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-8| J: Hayley Turner| T: B G Powell| OR:  62| CD

Produced a career best effort when winning comfortably at Chelmsford in June (7f), but has arguably progressed further since, finding only Plunger a neck too good at Leicester last month (7f, good to firm); likely to race prominently and respected.

Forecasts

Human Nature (11/4), Garth Rockett (3/1), Majestic Moon (4/1), Colonel Frank (5/1), Viscount Loftus (5/1), Arnarson (14/1)

Verdict

A very trappy looking handicap which is probably best avoided for punting purposes. However, there'll be a winner, so small stakes are played on the eight-year-old MAJESTIC MOON. He has been out of his depth in competitive Ascot handicaps the past twice (form is working out), and races off a 2lb lower mark than when runner-up to the progressive Breanski here in June (1m). He offers some appeal as a potential value based angle in a difficult to solve race.
  1. Majestic Moon
  2. Garth Rockett
  3. Viscount Loftus
