Has won here five times and now just 1lb higher than when scoring in May. Went close on a faster than ideal surface on last visit here but would ideally like some rain.

Took this last year and fourth in 2015. Has twice finished behind Black Caesar this year and the handicapper has given him a chance to turn the tables. Recent efforts have suggested age may be creeping up on him.

Badly out of form in recent times and his last five wins have come over further. Dips below his last winning mark but remains hard to fancy.

Narrow winner of a soft ground 5.5f Bath median auction stakes in October 2017, but hadn't achieved a great deal since wind surgery until her last two runs. The extra yards here help as will the rain if the forecasts are accurate.

Verdict

The forecast of rain at Brighton on Thursday/Friday suggests conditions will favour track specialist Black Caesar and LADY MARIGOLD. The former is just 1lb higher than when last successful so must go close, but the selection has the potential to improve over this longer trip having lacked the pace to get competitive in recent sprints on fast ground. Another career low mark and the booking of Martin Harley make her an attractive proposition. Kachumba likes it here having won twice on fast ground and, as a daughter of Mayson, should be able to handle softer surfaces too.
  1. Lady Marigold
  2. Black Caesar
  3. Kachumba
