British raider who caught the eye in a Grade 2 Cheltenham handicap chase over 2m5f in April finishing third of 16 beaten 2¾L adrift of Traffic Fluide on good ground. Place claims at least.
C&D winner at this meeting in 2016. Has appeared to have regressed of late and was well down the field in the 'Plate' on Wednesday. May find it tough going here.
Winner over C&D in October off a 6lb lower mark under Ruby Walsh. Well held since on three starts and looks up against it here.
Popular veteran but last win came here in 2016 off a 9lb higher mark. Likely to struggle with better handicapped sorts lurking.
Lightly raced sort with his last two starts consisting of being pulled up in the last two Galway Plate's. Difficult to see any light at the end of the tunnel in this contest.
135-rated chaser for Andrew Lynch. But the veteran may find his current mark a little on the tough side in this company.
Course winner that has also won over the distance but has looked a little off the pace in a couple of below-par displays since May. Will need to improve to have a say here.
Scored at Fairyhouse in January but struggled at Grade 1 standard in two subsequent outings last term. Lost any chance he had when hampered at the ninth in the 'Plate' on Wednesday and better can be expected here for leading trainer/jockey combo.
Genuine and tough sort finished fifth of 22 beaten 11½L in Wednesday's 'Plate' and has place claims at least in this company.
Landed a 20/1 shock in a Punchestown handicap chase in April off a 7lb higher mark before disappointing in a Kilbeggan contest last month. Distance winner but this looks a tall order.
Forecasts
Sub Lieutenant (5/4), Saturnas (4/1), Sandymount Duke (11/2), Kalondra (7/1), Haymount (12/1), Call It Magic (16/1), Wounded Warrior (25/1), Alelchi Inois (25/1), Jarob (33/1), Devils Bride (33/1)
Fifth of 22 beaten 11½L in Wednesday's 'Plate', SUB LIEUTENANT is clearly in good form and can put his experience of mixing it with the likes of Might Bite and Bellshill in the spring to good use by landing the spoils here. Saturnas who was unlucky in the same race can finish nearer the selection in this contest barring any hiccups while Sandymount Duke looks the best of the rest.
- Sub Lieutenant
- Saturnas
- Sandymount Duke
