Disappointed a little in the Super Sprint last time out when fancied but he has claims on the form that saw him finish fifth of 28 in Listed class at Royal Ascot and there may be more to come over this trip.

Won a valuable conditions race at Beverley on his return this season, narrowly getting the better of Tin Hat. Has barely beaten a rival home in two starts since though and has a bit to prove at present.

Arrives here bidding for a hat-trick after wins at Redcar and York, seemingly improving for the step up in trip in the latter. 13lb higher here but there was enough to like about the manner of that win to suggest he will go well again.

Improved on handicap debut last time to win at Lingfield but handicapper seems to have gone a little overboard with that success and he looks vulnerable from his revised mark. Talented 5lb apprentice taking the ride is a plus point.

Looked like a smart prospect earlier in the campaign but progress seems to have plateaued in recent months. May struggle to defy this handicap mark but high draw likely to help.

Gained his first win with an impressive success at Nottingham last time, winning in a better fashion than the 2L margin suggests. Rates as the type to kick on from that now and 9lb rise is fair for that effort.

Improving, judged on her recent 6L Bath nursery success last time. Handicapper did not miss that and put her up 12lb for it. More needed, but entitled to plenty of respect given how easily she won.

Off the mark in fine fashion on handicap debut last time and only has to carry a 6lb penalty for that success. Hard to oppose in similar conditions here given how well in he finds himself.

Alfie Solomons13
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-8| J: M Dwyer| T: R Spencer| OR:  81

Improved from debut to win at Newcastle in June and has slowly worked his way back to form in recent starts. Handicapper has leniently dropped him 1lb for his latest effort at Ripon and can't be ruled out here.

Sole win in seven starts came at Hamilton. Has been a little hit and miss since but his second at York two starts back was a return to form and a return to fast ground should suit here.

Only narrowly denied in a maiden last time and the winner has come out and won again since. Would need to improve to defy this mark on handicap debut though.

Some promise in his second start when runner-up at Hamilton but his two efforts since have been disappointing. Others look more progressive and bring stronger form to the table.

Stepped up a little on his previous form when runner-up on handicap debut last time. Needs to build on that here though with some promising types in the contest.

Unplaced on each of his three starts and a beaten favourite on the last two occasions. Yard do well with their sprinters but this colt needs to find plenty for the fitting of first-time cheekpieces.

Forecasts

Leading Spirit (11/8), The Great Heir (6/1), Barend Boy (7/1), Don Armado (11/1), Tin Hat (14/1), Port of Leith (14/1), Swiss Pride (16/1), I Am A Dreamer (16/1), Leoube (16/1), Alfie Solomons (20/1), Jungle Inthebungle (25/1), Dixieland (25/1), Ballistic (33/1), Big Ace (33/1)

Verdict

It's hard to oppose LEADING SPIRIT here given the nature of his win last time out and given that he only has to carry a 6lb penalty for that success, he's well in at the weights here. The Great Heir is clearly progressing at some rate and while the handicapper hasn't taken any chances with him, there could be more to come. Leoube is another last time out winner who won in fine style and Richard Hannon often keeps his sprinters progressing at a steady rate.
