Much better record on the AW than turf, but that is reflected in his respective handicap marks on the two surfaces. Well held at Carlisle last time and has a bit to find.

Quite lightly raced, but only win came on the AW and he has failed to hit the frame in five starts on turf. However, he ran well over C&D last time and, if building on that, can get involved under his top amateur rider.

Only limited promise in three novice events and was last of seven in his first handicap at Ripon last month. Down 2lb, but has plenty to do.

Last year's win over this trip at Nottingham was his only success and he has not been at his best this season. Down to a lenient mark and has claims if able to return to form.

Narrowly beaten over C&D before winning by 9L back at this venue last week. Improving and is likely to take plenty of beating under her 6lb penalty.

Couple of good recent efforts over 1m4f at Ripon and repeat of that level of form would give him each-way prospects again. Long time since he won, though, and shorter trip may not be ideal.

Without a win this year and handicapper has finally dropped him 4lb. Needs to step up on an ordinary run at Carlisle last time.

Yarmouth handicap winner for David Simcock, but has had two other trainers since and has failed to add to his tally. Recent efforts have not been encouraging so he is readily opposed.

Has failed to hit the frame in eight Flat races and four bumpers. Beaten out of sight at Musselburgh last time and is impossible to make a case for.

Forecasts

Bollin Joan (4/6), Hilborough (7/2), Aelius (9/1), Rockliffe (11/1), Changing Minds (14/1), Archipeligo (16/1), Polar Forest (18/1), Prosecute (50/1), Lots Ov (100/1)

Verdict

Not many of these leap off the page, but the glaring exception is BOLLIN JOAN, who hacked up over C&D last week and should take plenty of beating under her penalty. Hillborough ran well over C&D last time and can chase home the selection under his excellent pilot, while Aelius is down to a lenient mark and can secure minor honours.
  1. Bollin Joan
  2. Hilborough
  3. Aelius
