No win since May 2017, but he's handled himself well in some tough Class 2 handicaps (1m4f-1m6f) this year; upped in trip after finishing 2¾L third to Machine Learner (1m6f) here earlier this month.

Useful dual purpose performer who rattled off a hat-trick of AW wins during February and March (1m4f-2m); not had things go his way in two starts back on turf (ground/draw), but arrives fresh from a 77 day break.

His two wins so far have come in novice races, including in a Class 5 contest at Ripon in April (1m4f, soft); however, he ran very well (beaten 11+) at odds of 66/1 in the Group 2 Queens Vase on his sole Ascot start last month.

Verdict

The 2018 Brown Jack sees the thriving MANCINI bid for his fourth victory in just five starts in 2018, and such was the manner of his authoritative 5L Goodwood win last month, there's every chance that an 8lb rise in the weights won't be enough to thwart his progress. Alqamar has performed consistently well (without winning) so far this season, including at this track earlier in the month (1m6f), but this slight step up in trip rates as a minor concern for the Charlie Appleby-trained runner.
