Posted a decent effort at Newmarket in April but has been below that level twice since. DIdn't make much impact on handicap debut last time but possible this extra furlong will help today. Risky but feasible she'll cope under top weight.

Comes here on the back of his best effort for a while - finished a short-head second over 1m at Carlisle earlier in the month. Up in trip but promising that he was placed over 1m2f here last October. Has to be a player in this company.

A maiden under both codes but has no stamina issues and has posted a couple of sound efforts this season. On a fair mark so has to merit consideration in a weak event such as this. (Beat just one horse home in the corresponding race in 2017 though.)

Started this season off with a bit of promise but latest efforts have been uninspiring. Likes to race with the pace but his resolution for a battle is becoming questionable. Something to prove despite being dropped 2lb since his last run.

Well beaten in three maidens and much the same on handicap debut at the start of this month. Also needs to conclusively prove this trip is ideal. others more convincing.

Unexposed at this trip but hasn't really caught the imagination since switching to racing in handicaps and plenty to prove just now. (The assessor has dropped him 5lb since April but the gelding still appears to need a bit more assistance.)

Verdict

DONTGIVEUPONBOB arrives here on the back of one of his better efforts and, while he's no world beater, he gets the nomination as the stand-out contender in this modest company. Almunther beat just one rival in this race last year but has strengthened up since and appears to be in better heart this time around. He looks the best alternative, as Firby has yet to stamp his authority on a race and isn't one to rely upon too heavily if this develops into a dash for the line.
