Put together two good runs in defeat last month and now punished with a 5lb rise in the weights for her consistency. Has never won from a mark this high.

Dandy Man filly (£25,000 yearling) who has shown promise in three career starts in maidens and is a likely improver now sent handicapping for the first time.

Landed a bad race at Redcar last autumn when only needing to run to her rating of 67. Went up 5lb for that and no surprise to see her struggle. Back down to a more realistic mark having found the trip too far last time. Seems to handle any ground.

Veteran mare has scored eight career successes but without a win since July 2016. Very well handicapped on best of old form but not certain the ability is there any longer.

Peaked when outrunning odds of 50/1 at Thirsk. That seems a flash in the pan judged on her other performances.

By Sulamani out of a Cesarewitch runner-up so fears this may be on the short side. Caught the eye last time when denied a clear run and initial mark is not too demanding.

Betting

Forecast

Morticia (1/1), Beatbybeatbybeat (4/1), Doon Star (9/2), Ventura Royal (7/1), Jenoow (17/2), Cabal (25/1)

Verdict

Beatbybeat looks harshly handicapped and Cabal has lost her way. Jeenow is hard to assess but on the balance of form she is moderate. Doon Star would be more appealing over further so that leaves MORTICIA and Ventura Royal. The latter is better treated in this than for her recent handicap outings and the return to a mile helps, but the selection has been given a chance on her handicap debut as her Wetherby second looks good form and she was unlucky last time.
  1. Morticia
  2. Ventura Royal
  3. Doon Star
