Came into his own last summer with three wins, the latest of them when last seen at Market Rasen in September (2m5½f, good to soft), when scoring by 10L. 7lb rise for that looks fair, but he is going to need some improvement. Goes well fresh.

Completed a protracted hat-trick when scoring at Plumpton (2m3½f, good to firm) 14-month ago, from 3lb lower. Below that form from then until last time out, when marginally improving on it at Market Rasen. Bit more needed but has claims.

C&D scorer (good) in 2015, when with David Pipe. Ended a lengthy losing run with a 12L success for this trainer at Cartmel in May. Handicapper has not missed that, with a 13lb rise today, but could be more to come now.

Ran up a hat-trick at Musselburgh earlier this year (2m4f/3m, on good/good to soft). Handicapper caught up with him since then, but should remain reasonably competitive from this mark.

Up 3lb for a novices' handicap chase win (2m, good) here last time. Step back up in trip should help and now that her confidence is back, expect a decent effort for her locally-based Grand National winning trainer.

Made the frame over this trip at Hexham (good) last time, but is without a chase win since 2013, is 4lb out of the handicap and is very hard to fancy in this field.

Forecasts

Border Breaker (3/1), Alizee De Janeiro (3/1), I'm An Izz Wizz (7/2), Nefyn Bay (9/2), Perfect Timing (5/1), Milans Well (20/1)

Verdict

Allzee De Janeiro will have regained some chasing confidence after her win here last time, though that was not the strongest of races and it remains to be seen whether she can repeat it from 3lb higher and BORDER BREAKER is preferred. Admittedly, he has to cope with a whopping 13lb rise, but his Cartmel success was emphatic and we know that he acts here. Perfect Timing, Nefyn Bay and I'm An Izz Wizz all have positives to their names too, but may have to wait for other days.
  1. Border Breaker
  2. Alizee De Janeiro
  3. Perfect Timing
