Listed winner at Sandown in 2016 but he's been very disappointing subsequently and recent Flat runs for current yard leave him with plenty to find. Does take a drop in class here, but not convincing.
Better on AW than turf, and stepped up on reappearance effort when winning 1½m handicap here last month. Stays further, so every chance trying 2m for the first time, and one to be interested in.
Unbeaten in two starts here, winning a C&D handicap last August. Only seen once since, at York in October, but capable of better yet and respected on belated return.
Three of four handicap wins have come here, and while he's not been tried at this trip, he's been shaping as if worth a try in staying on late over shorter. Best off a strong pace, and may get the race run to suit here.
Landed a handicap hat-trick last season, and not seen to best effect on final outing here. Shapes like a stayer, so step up in trip could suit, and still not fully exposed.
Half-brother Biographer stayed very well, and this gelding won over 1½m here last season. Improved in defeat over 1m3f here in May, and looks on a favourable mark now stepping up in trip.
Goes well fresh, and fine third in Queen's Prize over C&D on return. Hasn't really gone on from that, and ran poorly at Goodwood on latest start, so easy to have reservations.
Reliable sort has run well on all three starts this season, most recently plugging on into fourth over C&D last month. This looks tougher, however, and needs cheekpieces to eke out more.
Was stepped up successfully to this trip in a maiden handicap at Beverley last July before following up over 2m½f at Lingfield. Went very close at Chelmsford next time and is respected on return from absence with yard in form.
Twice a winner on the AW this season, he hasn't cut much ice in turf handicaps on last couple of starts, but might do better returned to the scene of his C&D success in February.
Front-runner who ran well when a close third of 14 to Villette over 1m3f here last week. Shapes as he he'll stay further, although hard to gauge how he will fare faced with such a marked step up in trip.
Forecasts
Petitioner (3/1), West Coast Flyer (7/2), Percy's Word (9/2), Rake's Progress (5/1), Just In Time (13/2), Piedita (16/1), Quothquan (16/1), Arab Moon (25/1), Age Of Wisdom (33/1), Gavlar (50/1), Sandro Botticelli (66/1)
PETITIONER is a half-brother to a pattern-class stayer, and is expected to improve now tackling this trip for the first time. Percy's Word and Piedita are returning from absence, but both are lightly raced stayers open to further progress, and merit respect against more exposed horses.
- Petitioner
- Percy's Word
- Piedita
