Best effort from sliding mark this year when 1½L fourth of 14 to Coachella at Bath last time, albeit helped by being held up in a strongly run race. Needs to build on that, but this does represent an ease in class.

Went into handicaps last year rated 85, but has dropped sharply after a winless run, and caught the eye when 1¼L fifth of 12 to Soaring Spirits at Lingfield on reappearance. Will do better, and one to be interested in.

Form is in and out this year, following a respectable second under this rider at Lingfield with a poor effort at Kempton, and he probably isn't one to trust implicitly.

All his wins have come at 7f or shorter, most recently at Brighton last month, and he has been back in his shell on both starts since, albeit with excuses. Return to this venue could spark a revival, with a hood added to usual cheekpieces.

Won a couple of C&D handicaps in first part of 2017, and now 14lb below last winning mark. Not been threatening to win on turf of late, but eased markedly in class now, and one to take seriously.

Modest at best when last seen in 2015, and makes no appeal returning from a long absence for new yard.

Runner-up in trio of AW maidens for Ralph Beckett as a three-year-old, but sharply regressive for various yards since, including over jumps, and fitting of blinkers does little to inspire confidence now.

Has won over C&D for previous yard, and much better for belated reappearance when second to Servo here last time, running on. Handicapped to play a role if backing that effort up.

Both career wins have been gained over 1m at Kempton, and better signs when 2L fourth of 14 to Tarseekh at same course last time. Not dismissed now, but others more convincing.

Some creditable efforts this year on Tapeta, winning over 7f here in February. Below best more recently, although better than bare form last twice, so makes some appeal at likely odds.

Best effort this season when all out to land a C&D handicap in April, but followed that with a poor run at Chelmsford, and she has a fair bit to find on balance.

Best recent effort when third in low-grade handicap over 7f here in May. Better than result at Chelmsford last time, but not really one to make excuses for, and others look stronger again.

Just a glimmer of promise for Ollie Pears as a juvenile, and makes limited appeal after a break for new yard. Has been gelded.

Forecasts

Maldonado (2/1), Sir Lancelott (4/1), Celtic Artisan (5/1), Splash Of Verve (6/1), Muthraab Aldaar (9/1), Spryt (14/1), Edge (20/1), Magic Ship (25/1), Shamonix (28/1), Henry Grace (33/1), Malaysian Boleh (40/1), Rain In The Face (50/1), Digi (100/1)

Verdict

More interesting than most handicaps at this level. MALDONADO has fallen a long way in the weights, and hinted strongly at a revival when fifth at Lingfield on his return. He gets the nod over Celtic Artisan, who has also slipped to a good mark and reserves his best form for this track. Splash of Verve and Sir Lancelott are others to consider.
  1. Maldonado
  2. Celtic Artisan
  3. Sir Lancelott
