Came back to his best with a tongue-tie back on at Stratford last time having been pulled-up without one 5 days earlier. Looks like that equipment is essential to his chance; up 5lb here but should be able to cope having won off higher in the past.

Scored over C&D on his first outing for this yard (with Dan Skelton before) having been beaten in a seller the time before. Hard to comprehend where that performance came from; 13lb higher here for that emphatic victory but up in grade (tough ask).

Three-time C&D winner last summer (proved a revelation; completed a hat-trick) rising rapidly in the handicap. With a new yard he looks primed for this with a run at Kelso last time; will need to produce form from the top of his game off this mark.

Seen at his best in April over a sharp 2m at Fakenham proving well suited by the better ground -that win has forced him into a higher grade since. Ran well enough off a stiff mark last time (behind All Set To Go); pushed up the handicap again.

Yet to win a race over hurdles or fences for this yard making up into two winless seasons. Not disgraced in either sphere of late his hurdles mark still remains a tough one based on what he's done; often flatters to deceive.

Won the opening race on this card two years ago and has run with credit in most handicaps since (won on debut in that sphere). Looks to have been running into form/fitness on her return runs and that makes this dual C&D winner a player.

Quirky sort who had plenty in his favour when winning over fences last October off a reduced mark. Has only run once before over hurdles for this yard (in stable debut) and produced a laboured effort when last seen in May over C&D.

Fairly useful bumper/hurdle winner when with Nicky Henderson (didn't really excel over fences). Brought back to hurdles for his stable debut and ran to free; hard to weigh up at the moment; given a chance by the handicapper.

Recent Flat exploits have been creditable having fallen when last seen over hurdles but was in the process of turning in an eye-catching performance. A repeat of that run would see him go close off a 2lb higher mark; trying for first handicap win.

Found plenty for pressure under today's rider to win consecutive races over C&D last year but remains above those two winning marks. Folded tamely on his last two starts over hurdles and a far from solid proposition this time around.

A mark of 112 had proved beyond him on a couple of previous occasions but he had no problem off it last time out (improved form); settled and travelled better. Looks a sensible decision to run under a penalty (handicapper won't be kind with mark).

Regular visitor here (most from this stable are) and twice a C&D winner but looks totally out of sorts at the moment. Pulled-up last two starts with the latest below-par run coming here on Friday.

Forecasts

Leapaway (11/8), Golden Jeffrey (6/1), Wells De Lune (13/2), Martila (7/1), All Set To Go (8/1), Ashkoul (8/1), Applesandpierres (11/1), Beeno (12/1), Solatentif (12/1), Uptown Funk (14/1), Captain Brown (33/1), One For The Guv'nr (33/1), Lough Kent (40/1), Nicolas Chauvin (50/1)

Verdict

Golden Jeffrey and Wells Du Lune clashed here in an amateur rider’s event on Friday over the same distance with the latter coming out on top after the former unseated his rider two from home. That was probably a little too far out to say what would have happened but both need to find more in this grade. Leapaway also has to try and follow-up under a penalty in a better grade with Applesandpierres having to cope with a 13lb higher mark after his C&D romp. All Set To Go must go on the shortlist but it’s UPTOWN FUNK who gets the overall vote. Kept ticking over on the Flat his limited hurdles exploits have signalled that he could win something like this.
  1. Uptown Funk
  2. All Set To Go
  3. Golden Jeffrey
