Cape Cross filly, cost €62,000 as a yearling. Bred to want further than this and well beaten on debut last year. Others make plenty more appeal.
Scat Daddy gelding, cost $380,000 as a yearling, is a half-brother to multiple winners at up to 1m. Green on debut but produced an improved performance at Navan earlier this month. More progress likely.
Dawn Approach colt, cost 65,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to several winners. Has run well on each of his three starts including when runner-up in a Leopardstown maiden last time. First-time blinkers could see him improve and should go well.
Helmet colt, cost 26,000 gns as a foal and €140,000 as a yearling. Half-brother to two winners including a Listed winner over a similar trip. Dam placed in Listed class and half-sister to Group 3 winner. Well bred and interesting debutante.
Galileo colt, dam was a Group 3 winning sprinter, a half-sister to Group 1 winner and Group 3 winner/stablemate Hydrangea. Improved from his debut to finish fourth of eight at Leopardstown last time and should do better if getting away on terms.
Galileo colt, brother to two winners including a Listed winner, half-brother to six more winners including a Group 3 winner. Dam a half-sister to a Group 2 winner. Has been well beaten on both his starts and may need more time.
Declaration Of War colt, cost 30,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to three winners including a Group 3. Dam Listed placed over this trip. Well beaten last of four on debut and needs to leave that behind to have any say here.
Nathaniel gelding, cost €38,000 as a foal. Half-brother to five winners including a Listed winner over 7f. Dam a winner. Yard won this in 2016 and he's the first string on jockey bookings. Makes some appeal on pedigree and not ruled out.
Acclamation filly, cost €92,000 as a yearling. Dam a Group 3 winner. This looks a suitable test for her debut and market likely to reveal expectations.
Lilbourne Lad filly, half-sister to two winners. Dam a half-sister to a useful stayer. Others make more appeal on paper here and unless market suggests otherwise, probably worth looking elsewhere.
Forecasts
Somerset Maugham (5/2), California Jumbo (3/1), Dawn Trouper (4/1), Subjudice (11/2), Winner Takes Itall (12/1), War Advocate (12/1), Khafaaq (20/1), With Herself (33/1), June Ann (33/1), Lady Kimberley (66/1)
James Stack won this race last year and CALIFORNIA JUMBO shaped with enough promise last time out to be of interest. There's likely to be more to come given her pedigree and price tag and there's every chance he will improve for the faster ground here. Joseph O'Brien is another trainer who has enjoyed success in this and Winner Takes Itall makes some appeal on paper while Somerset Maugham is very well bred and while he's been a shade disappointing in two starts so far, better is expected here.
