5f Southwell winner on his second start. Was unruly in stalls before being beaten 13L at Leicester under a penalty last week. Tries again here with a bit to prove.

£1,000 yearling. First foal of a 5¾f-1m2f maiden half-sister to 6f-1m winners Indian Giver and Petit Lulu. Modest pedigree and looks one to watch on debut.
21,000gns foal. 9,500gns yearling. Fifth foal. Half-brother to three winners (6f-1m), one of them at two, and the best of them being Hilborough. Probably one to watch on debut.
16-1 and never involved in a novices' auction event at Redcar (5f, good to firm) last week. Hard to fancy until we have seen more from him.

£35,000 yearling. £16,000 at two. Fifth foal, half-brother to three winners, two of them at two over sprint trips in France, out of US 1m½f dirt winner. Nice enough pedigree in the context of this race. Stable among winners. Market check.

12-1 but green and never involved when 11L last of eight on debut at York (6f, good) recently. Can come on for that, but perhaps needs further experience before winning.

15,000gns yearling, 42,000gns at two. First foal of a mare placed over 1m at two, half-sister to Hong Kong 1m2f Group 2 winner Endowing. Stable's two-year-olds not yet fully firing but she is interesting and one to note in the market.

20-1 and could not make an impact on debut at Redcar (6f, good to firm) last month, being beaten 13L. Can continue her education here, but makes little appeal for win purposes.
First foal of a 5f winner. Grandam a 7f winning half-sister to Group-placed 1m4f winner Molomo, dam of a Group 3 winner. Represents top yard whose turf juveniles are doing well (30% strike rate) this season. Probably capable of a good debut.

Forecasts

Pink Flamingo (4/5), Double Quick (11/4), Cococabala (10/1), Ventura Bay (10/1), Lads Order (12/1), My Ukulele (16/1), Uncle Norman (16/1), Prancealong (33/1), Melgate Majeure (40/1), Haggswood Boy (100/1)

Verdict

An ordinary opener where Cococabala clearly has to be given respect having won a race, but at the same time has a bit to prove after his debut. The suggestion, therefore, is to take him on with newcomer PINK FLAMINGO. Mark Johnston's filly is out of a 5f winner and he has his two-year-olds in fine fettle already this season, so a win would not surprise. Double Quick is another interesting newcomer, along with Uncle Norman.
  1. Pink Flamingo
  2. Double Quick
  3. Cococabala
