Related to Kauto Star but clearly has nothing like his ability. Not shown a great deal over hurdles so far, including when racing keenly and well beaten at Sedgefield last month (2m1f good).

Maiden over hurdles/on the Flat in Ireland for previous handler W.J.Burke, but lines up for a new trainer tonight on his first start since mid-September 2017.

A 27-race maiden, but like so many others showed improved form on debut for Dan Skelton at Kempton latest (2m good). Drops back into novice company with every chance despite not being the most resolute of horses.
Ten race Flat maiden (ex Roger Charlton/Richard Hughes). Made the frame on hurdles/stable debut at Market Rasen last month (2m+ good), but beaten 19L by a stablemate of Weightfordave (Marie Banrigh).

A winner over the extended mile at Beverley in July 2017 (good), he's broadly proved disappointing since. Switched to hurdles now with Brian Hughes booked at a track which should help to reduce any slight stamina concerns.

Won a low-grade 1m4f Flat handicap at Chepstow for Henry Candy in August 2017, but moved on cheaply for 4,500 gns in November 2017. Well beaten on recent hurdles debut at Market Rasen, so plenty of improvement required.

Placed in three bumpers for previous trainer Willie Mullins, but regressed latterly and sold for £7,500 in November 2017. Plausible that she needed the race on hurdles debut at Bangor last month (2m good) and could do better if settling.

Cost just £650 as a three-year-old and struggled in three starts in bumpers; so can only be watched on hurdles debut with no significant level of expectation.

Catterick specialist on the Flat (1m4f) and was recording her third success at the North Yorkshire track when justifying favouritism in a Class 6 claimer latest. Bought for £12,000 from Karl Burke afterwards and a hurdling debut now awaits.

Forecasts

Weightfordave (4/6), Leapt (3/1), Riviere Argentee (9/1), Duc Kauto (10/1), Crumpledandcreased (10/1), Mont Royal (20/1), Lucky Robin (33/1), Fifty Peach Way (50/1), Murchison River (66/1)

Verdict

The wait has been a long one, but it could well be 28th time lucky for Weightfordave on what will be a second start for Dan Skelton. This trainer excels with such tricky customers during the summer months and this new recruit should be capable of winning such a race now that he's apparently clean winded. However, there are alternatives which include the Catterick Flat specialist Riviere Argentee on debut for Robin Dickin, and the more speculative pick MONT ROYAL. Ollie Pears isn't known for his National Hunt winners (last jumps winner in the 2011/12 season; only two runners since 2015/16), but the booking of Brian Hughes catches the eye.
  1. Mont Royal
  2. Weightfordave
  3. Riviere Argentee
