Most effective on Tapeta, but a largely promising Flat career has been slowed by a tendency to break blood vessels. Hasn't taken to hurdling and is dropped into a seller wearing a first time visor.

A winner on both turf (1m4f) and Tapeta (2m) during the early months of 2017, but has failed to recapture that form since and is another who hasn't taken a shine to hurdling.

Has lacked sparkle over hurdles since winning for Nicky Henderson at Towcester in October 2017 (2m gd/fm), and was sold recently for £6,000. Should be competitive in this grade on stable debut based upon his earlier Flat form for Charles Hills.

Unable to exploit a falling mark over hurdles (1/22), and took a hefty fall early on at Hexham latest. Makes his Flat debut at a late age, but telling it occurs in selling company.

Poor form on all eight starts (maiden), including when beaten almost 7L in a 1m4f course claimer latest. No obvious chance at these weights.

St Malo203
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-3| J: M Harley| T: P Hobbs & J White| OR:  80
8/11
Didn't stick around long in Ireland with Denis Hogan after joining from Roger Varian for 35,000 gns. Shown a solid level of form on synthetics in the past (1m3f-1m4f) and evidently the horse to beat assuming all is well.

Forecasts

St Malo (8/11), Royal Flag (4/1), Cool Macavity (9/2), Simmo's Partytrick (12/1), Genres (25/1), Justatenner (100/1)

Verdict

A line can be safely drawn through two or possibly even three of these runners, with only ST MALO and Cool Macavity realistically considered at the weights. Both rate as risky, but the Hobbs trained runner is preferred on the basis that his respectable Flat form (synthetics) is more recent than that of his main market rival. His trainer has never previously saddled a Flat runner at Catterick, but operates a 22% strike-rate over jumps here since 1988 (2 from 9).
  1. St Malo
