Not beaten all that far when finishing fifth in a stronger contest at York earlier this month (5f good to firm) having earlier won a four runner affair at Nottingham (5f soft), so fully entitled to be competitive.

Robeam
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: T Hamilton| T: R A Fahey
15/2
Unraced tenth foal out of a 1m1f winning dam (Secret Flame). Cost 25,000 gns as a yearling and is a half-brother to six winners including Cabal (7f-1m1f+). Doubly represented trainer continuing to supply a steady flow of winners of late.

8/1
Unraced second foal by Camacho out of a moderate dam (Cambridge Duchess). Cost £20,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to the 5f-6f winner Melonade; so could possess the required speed over this minimum trip.

12/1
Unraced first foal by Zebedee out of an unraced dam (House of Roses) who was a sister to the 6f Qatar winner Court Life. Cost £18,000 as a yearling; trainer also saddles Robeam.

7/4
Runner up on each of his last two starts, including at Redcar (6f good to firm) just ten days ago when beaten 3¾L by Certain Lad. Drop in trip helpful and certain to race prominently, but this looks to be a tougher race (Class 4).
Showed marked improvement on his second start at Cork recently (6f+ good) when finishing 4L fourth to Invasion Day. Drop in trip is certainly no negative and should be in there pitching if able to replicate that showing.

Age: 2|  Weight: 8-8| J: J P Sullivan| T: B Haslam
25/1
Kendargent filly who cost £19,000 at the breeze-ups. Showed speed on debut at Catterick (5f good) before weakening (28/1), but could progress from that initial racecourse experience.

Horse silk
40/1
Not shown all that much in a couple of early season spins at Ripon (5f soft) and Musselburgh (5f good to firm), so potentially rates as this trainers second string behind the debutante Woodside Wonder.
9
(8)
Horse silk
22/1
Unraced fourth foal by Footstepsinthesand out of a 5f-6f placed dam (Asian Lady). Picked up cheaply for just £3,000, but is a half-sister to a couple of winners including Oriental Splendour (5f), so hailing from a major stable merits respect.

Forecasts

Big Ace (7/4), Delft Dancer (10/3), Backpfeifengesicht (15/2), Robeam (15/2), Woodside Wonder (8/1), Primeiro Boy (12/1), West Drive Story (22/1), Pinarella (25/1), Don't Tell Dandy (40/1)

Verdict

Big Ace rates as a likely pace angle and won't be at all inconvenienced by dropping back to the minimum trip after a solid run at Redcar, but technically this is a stronger race than he's contested previously (Class 4). Similar trip comments apply to the Irish raider Backpfeifengesicht who should be in there pitching if able to replicate his second effort at Cork, but the top-weighted filly DELFT DANCER has plenty of experience and wasn't disgraced in a better race than this at York earlier in the month (fifth) despite not having things go all her own way.
  1. Delft Dancer
  2. Backpfeifengesicht
  3. Big Ace
