Best run of last season came at the back end of the year, second in a big-field nursery at Newmarket. Not reached that high in two starts this season as yet, but has clearly trained on and did well from the front at Nottingham on latest start.
Steps in to handicaps for the first time, seemed to handle soft ground on debut last year so won't mind a bit of cut and his close fourth to Ispolini at Kempton looks solid form. Will strip fitter for recent run and not ruled out.
Model of consistency, not out of the first three last five starts although may need a bit more after getting nudged up a couple of pounds for latest Newmarket effort, especially if there's any more rain.
Second at Haydock last year (to a useful one form working out okay) his best run from five, highly tried final start of last year and recent effort will have taken the fizz out of him (pulled very hard). May fare better yet, but yard a little quiet.
Looked to have a future when catching the eye in a couple of races at Yarmouth, but a bit disappointing on reappearance at Ascot. Should do better, visor given a try today and no surprise if he leaves his form well behind here.
Didn't show too much last year, second at Chelmsford his best effort (well beaten and form not working out great) but may do better this season. Needs improvement for new yard.
Much improved in the winter once switched to artificial surfaces, although just as possible that he was a slow learner. Stays this trip well, switches back to turf today and may need the rain to stay away, but clearly going the right way now.
Came good first start of this year when switched to a handicap, winning a little race at Kempton. Blinkers retained, which may have helped, but takes a step up in grade here and back to turf, so new questions to answer.
Came good in a moderate race at Brighton last year but couldn't repeat that in two subsequent starts. Ran well enough here on debut last year (on good to soft) and worth a try at a mile, so has plus points if now fitter for recent outing.
Looked to need every yard of the mile when successful on latest start at Kempton, last week, and gets in here on the same mark as that was an apprentice race. Different test here but clearly in good heart, so has to be taken seriously.
Good debut at Ascot last July but backward steps since then, and now connections go for a visor to try and revive his fortunes. Looks a risky proposition at present.
Only just beaten on debut at Kempton but couldn't repeat that in three subsequent starts. Possibly the type to catch fresh, but very risky and might not want any further rain either.
First start for new yard after racing in Ireland last year, solid debut at Gowran Park but went badly backwards after that and loads to prove now. Only of interest if attracting support in the market.
Forecasts
Simply Breathless (3/1), Paco's Prince (3/1), Kraka (6/1), Oswald (8/1), Kendergarten Kop (10/1), Herdwick (12/1), Freebe Rocks (14/1), Camomile Lawn (16/1), Groundnut (18/1), Fenisa's Hook (20/1), Mankind (25/1), Blue Candy (50/1), Lone Voice (66/1)
It's not happened for HERDWICK as yet but it's still early days, and he looked a promising sort last year. The visor may well do the trick and if it does, he can finally start to fulfil his potential. Paco's Prince was a winner last week and if turning up here, and handling the different conditions, looks the biggest threat. Oswald and Fenisa's Hook both hold place claims.
- Herdwick
- Paco's Prince
- Fenisa's Hook
