Fairly useful on the Flat and a rare runner at the track for the trainer. Left his hurdling debut well behind when winning at Plumpton last time (settled better); looks open to further improvement even under a penalty.

Hard to think that he was suited by conditions on his hurdles debut (heavy) after showing some reasonable form in bumpers. Pulled-up on debut but the conditions are likely to be more in his favour here based on his bumper outings.

Had some useful form on the Flat but had to be dropped into selling grade to gain his last win when an odds-on chance. Well below that level on his hurdles debut (reported to have a breathing problem) but no better last time either.

Given a fairly quiet and considerate introduction to hurdles at Sedgefield (2m1f, good) and stamina for this sphere still open to question. Stayed 1m on the Flat and probably requires a sharp test like this to be able to get involved.

Finished 4th on his hurdles debut (Animated Hero pulled-up) when well beaten behind Bulkov at Sedgefield showing only a modicum of hurdling ability. Has deteriorated on the Flat; better conditions will help but hard to give a winning chance.
His two bumper outings (brought down on debut) hinted that he may well be one for the longer term and that idea was backed up on his hurdles debut. Well beaten in testing conditions behind a couple of useful types and hard to recommend here.

Hurdling debutante who ran poorly for his former yard on the Flat when last seen. New yard pop cheekpieces on him straight away (first-time in any headgear) after buying him for £10,000 in March; yard do well here (jockey booking take the eye).

Showed some useful (if quirky) form on the Flat back in the day and has previously shown something in limited hurdles runs. Runs for the first time over hurdles for current yard having not been seen in this sphere for over a year.

Having shown some decent form on the Flat for his previous yards (highly tried with previous yard) his hurdling form has been encouraging. Both hurdles runs so far have been creditable (twice runner-up) and that form has been franked; of interest.

First run over hurdles for a yard with a good record here. He's still a maiden on the Flat and his form on level wouldn't be as good as some of the others in the field. Not totally written off though; worth a market check.
He already looked regressive on the Flat and his two hurdles starts have done little to reverse that view. Hood worn last time is now removed but not one to rely on.
Modest maiden on the Flat who makes his hurdling debut having just his second run for this yard. Finished last of nine last time and hard to make a case for him here.

Previously on the Flat with Hughie Morrison his form over hurdles for this yard looks rather in-and-out. Best run came when held up and run in a hood at Catterick but he failed to match that last time; looks an awkward ride.
Modest performances in bumpers have led to some poor starts over hurdles although there was a little bit more progress on display last time. Looks one for handicaps down the line and needs this run for a mark.

Forecasts

The Steward (2/1), Crushed (9/4), Outcrop (8/1), Stipulate (10/1), Start Seven (10/1), Clemento (11/1), Lucky Lucarno (12/1), Green Light (22/1), It's All About Me (33/1), Every Chance (33/1), Geordie George (40/1), Animated Hero (40/1), Leopard (50/1), Jackhammer (80/1)

Verdict

A big field for the opener and there are one or two interesting types in this who have in the past shown some decent form on the Flat. The Steward would be one of those and he has a couple of solid hurdling outing behind him already with the form of his Hexham run franked already. Crushed sets a good standard having already won over hurdles and if Stipulate can show his old form he’ll be one to note also. Clemento would not have matched some of the Flat form on offer but the John Quinn yard have a good record here and a market move should be noted. A chance is taken with START SEVEN though for the Moffatt yard who are always respected around here with Richard Johnson booked.
