Twice a C&D winner with both of those wins coming after he joined this yard (one on debut). His last win here pushed him a little high in the handicap and he struggled after that although the handicapper has now relented; runs well fresh.
Showed improved form to win over C&D on his only start for his former yard. Failed to match that run in four runs for this yard with the last two being very poor (jumping let him down last time); hard to fancy here.
Unreliable sort who often doesn't look an easy ride although he did respond well to consistent urgings last time to win at Fontwell (3m2f, good). Evidently takes some knowing and not certain to be in the same form here.
Finally took a step back in the right direction for this yard (best effort since debut for them) at Warwick last time. Never any real threat but this sort of grade appears more his level these days if he can back that outing up.
As ever dropped out last time and brought into the race gradually, a running style that often sees him placed but an infrequent winner. Capable off this mark (last win off 5lb lower) but won't want to get too far back on this sharp track.
Shown some fair form in the past but despite being strong in the market (again) he turned in another poor effort last time. Given plenty of leeway by the handicapper (9lb below last winning mark); hard to be confident about his chance.
Failed to complete on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter in very heavy conditions, he's reverted to hurdles in two subsequent starts. Not suited by the run of the race last time and given a chance off this mark fencing again; market may give more clues.
Twice a winner over hurdles in handicaps last year she was in the main a consistent sort. Despite her fall last time out she looks to be gradually getting the hang of chasing over staying trips and one to note here.
Won a chase over shorter here last summer improving from out of the blue (20/1 chance). Didn't really hold her form for long after that but should strip fitter for a recent hurdles run although she hardly looks like the most straightforward sort.
Had a fine year in 2016 landing four wins and now returns from a fair absence. This sort of trip stretched him in the past though and he's more than likely to need this run.
Forecasts
Sam Noir (7/2), Pretty Miss Mahler (4/1), Grandads Horse (6/1), Shake It Up (7/1), Captain Mowbray (15/2), Shine Away (9/1), Munsaab (10/1), Nortonthorpelegend (10/1), Royals And Rebels (10/1), Proud Gamble (33/1)
This looks as though it could head in the direction of last year’s winning connections via MUNSAAB who took this contest off a 7lb higher mark and given that he’s best fresh, a 212-day break should prove no problem here. Pretty Miss Mahler appears to be getting better over fences and hopefully a fall last time out won’t have affected her as she has potential in this grade. Captain Mowbray should run his usual sound race although his exaggerated hold-up tactics around here will be difficult to pull off with Grandads Horse and Sam Noir two others than can be given a chance in this off their current marks.
- Munsaab
- Pretty Miss Mahler
- Captain Mowbray
