Has shown some good form in the past (mostly over hurdles) but has looked below-par since returning from a fair absence. Shaped a little better last time than previously but hard to believe he's near his best despite a sliding mark.

Hardly seen of late and pulled-up on his last two starts over fences leaving him with questions to answer. Features off a much reduced mark now but hard to make a case for him taking advantage of it.

Formerly a decent chaser but those days are long gone now with his last win coming in a poor three-runner affair. Last two starts are a fair measure of his ability these days but looks more one for place backers than win supporters; can jump poorly.

A course winner over hurdles here in the autumn he followed that up with a Wincanton chase win off a 3lb lower mark. His two most recent runs after a break are a mixed bag (ran poorly last time); well handicapped if bouncing back.

Progressive last season when winning three times off marks up to 90 he gave the impression he was still improving when second last time; bumped into a well-treated rival (form franked). Given plenty to do there; still one to keep onside.

Went through a good spell in the autumn winning over hurdles and fences the effects of a hard win perhaps causing his form to fall away in the end. Now returns from a break which could have freshened him up but now great record after an absence.

Yet to win over jumps and did show a little more over C&D last time although debateable if that was enough to make her of interest here. Does come from a more than capable yard though and worth a market check.

Forecasts

The Boss's Dream (9/4), Guerrilla Tactics (3/1), Irish Octave (5/1), Psychocandy (5/1), Turban (7/1), Southport (14/1), Culm Counsellor (25/1)

Verdict

Not the highest class event but IRISH OCTAVE has been running well and still looks to have some progress in him over fences having bumped into a well handicapped sort at Uttoxeter last time when given plenty to do; that form has been franked. Guerrilla Tactics still looks well enough handicapped if he can bounce back from a below-par run last time with The Boss’s Dream not totally ruled out on his hurdles form and a falling mark. Turban can be given a chance on his form of old although he does have to prove himself over this trip.
  1. Irish Octave
  2. Guerrilla Tactics
  3. Turban
