Christmas Twenty13
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: Finian O'Toole(3)| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  100
4/1
Had a few near misses, and is plausibly handicapped off a mark of 100, but his career record of 0 from 21 doesn't inspire confidence. Beaten 5L (third) by Shepherd's Bight at Kelso latest; 2m6f+.

Frankie's Promisep24
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-4| J: Lucy Alexander| T: N W Alexander| OR:  92| C
18/1
Competitive lately in point-to-points, but hasn't run under rules since March 2016. However a case of sorts can be made from his favourable mark which is now 12lb lower than back then. Non-runner at Perth last week.

Lightly raced under rules; beaten 21L by Diamond Brig in a maiden hunters' chase at Kelso in April (Buccluech Cup). Pulled up on his last two starts over hurdles but mark probably favourable for handicap debut.
4

Lawtop Legendp1138
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-1| J: Jonathon Bewley(3)| T: G Bewley| OR:  89
14/1
No show in three starts over hurdles, and off the track since early January. Encounters a sound surface for handicap debut also wearing first time cheek-pieces, so all of these factors are possible reasons for an improved performance.

Charin' Cross10
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-6| J: Alain Cawley| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  80

Not improved for the switch to handicap company, and didn't get home over C&D earlier this month after racing keenly (finished 13th of 17). Slides another 5lb down the weights.

Andhaarv10
Age: 12|  Weight: 10-1| J: Blair Campbell(5)| T: N W Alexander| OR:  75| D
11/2
An infrequent winner who has proved increasingly frustrating over the past few years. However, no doubting that he has the ability to win a race of this nature from his current mark and won't be phased by quick ground.

Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: Alison Clarke(7)| T: Kenny Johnson| OR:  74| C
40/1
Made his 100th career start when beaten 3½L by Frankie Ballou at Sedgefield in March, but he's hardly prolific and hasn't won since a Thomas Dowson masterclass over fences here on this day in 2017.

Dizoard10
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-0| J: Ross Chapman(3)| T: I Jardine| OR:  72
7/2
Hexham regular who is now 0 from 20 under rules (0 from 10 over hurdles). Finished a comfortably held eighth of 17 to Sporting Milan over C&D just ten days ago.
9
Horse silk
Knocklaydeb10
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-0| J: S Mulqueen(3)| T: K Scott| OR:  69| C
12/1
His sole success came in a three runner bumper at this track in April 2016, and it's been pretty much a tale of woe since. Readily dismissed.

Copt Hillp60
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: Henry Brooke| T: Julia Brooke| OR:  68
33/1
Sedgefield winner (2m1f) for Tracy Waggott way back in January 2013, but forever silent in terms of troubling the judge since. No chance from out of the weights.

Beyondtheflamep,t10
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-0| J: Thomas Dowson(3)| T: J C Haynes| OR:  58
40/1
Plenty of previous Hexham experience, but this prominent racing 23-race maiden needs to find improvement from somewhere or other if to figure from so far out of the weights.

Forecasts

Dizoard (7/2), Chanceiton (7/2), Christmas Twenty (4/1), Andhaar (11/2), Knocklayde (12/1), Charin' Cross (12/1), Lawtop Legend (14/1), Frankie's Promise (18/1), Copt Hill (33/1), Captain Sharpe (40/1), Beyondtheflame (40/1)

Verdict

A low grade handicap hurdle in which the Nick Alexander trained duo FRANKIE'S PROMISE and the frustrating Andhaar are likely capable of making a positive impression. The selection has been racing in point-to-points lately, but has winning hurdles form back in 2014, and now races from a mark which is intriguingly 12lb lower than his last timber outing at Newcastle in March 2016. Others to consider in an unappealing contest include Christmas Twenty, Chanceiton and the unexposed Lawtop Legend.
  1. Frankie's Promise
  2. Christmas Twenty
  3. Lawtop Legend
