Very easy winner at Newcastle two starts back but appeared to struggle with a massive hike up the weights at Newcastle last time off this mark. Needs to bounce back on only his second ever start on turf.

Makes her seasonal debut here and looks to improve on a below-par effort at Musselburgh last time out. Still yet to score for this yard, but this faster ground may help.

Ground softer than this would be preferable, but brought up a hat-trick at the end of last season (albeit off lower marks than this). Improvement needed on two efforts so far this campaign.

Has been plying her trade on the AW over the winter, and has put up some good efforts, particularly at Southwell. Only one win on turf to date but has only had six attempts, and could go well here.

Behind Becky The Thatcher at Pontefract two starts back but ran okay at Ripon last time and on the same mark here with a hood applied for the first time.

Beaten just a head in the Pontefract Marathon last time out, which suggests she should be capable of winning on the Flat despite remaining a maiden on the level. Up 3lb but this trip likely to suit, and should go well.

Course and distance winner in August 2016 but 4lb higher, but has drawn a blank on the Flat since and last two efforts on the AW were hardly encouraging.

On a long enough losing streak dating back to January 2017, and no closer to getting his head back in front on his two starts on the AW so far this year; out of the handicap here.

1-15 in her career. and races from a fair way out of the handicap. Beaten 16L last time out and looks set for another minor role here.

Forecasts

Uptown Funk (15/8), Becky The Thatcher (7/2), Question Of Faith (11/2), Hediddodinthe (6/1), Katie Gale (8/1), Wor Lass (14/1), Jan Smuts (20/1), Gold Chain (33/1), Kazoey (100/1)

Verdict

Katie Gale needs to prove she's as effective on turf compared to Fibresand, and so preference is for BECKY THE THATCHER. She may still be a maiden on the Flat but has won over obstacles in the past and wasn't beaten far at Pontefract last time out in the longest race in the Flat calendar. She should also be fine over this shorter trip, and can confirm form with Uptown Funk, who finished third on that occasion.
  1. Becky The Thatcher
  2. Katie Gale
  3. Uptown Funk
