Useful handicapper who won at Newcastle last year when with Michael Dods but hasn't won since and the losing run has continued to mount. Had a wind op and two runs for his new yard but has shown little for those two instances.

6f on good/firm at Newmarket saw him gain his only win of last year and he's now dropped back below that last winning mark. Yet to get going this term though and may need the handicapper to relent just a touch more yet.

Still a maiden but ran well on his stable debut at Newcastle after looking exposed for Jamie Osborne. This looks a slightly stronger heat and he will need a strong pace to be seen to best effect; may be worth a try at 7f.

Caught the eye last time out at Pontefract a track where he often runs well coming from way back to take 3rd. The handicapper dropped him 1lb for that and he resides on a decent mark here as he bids to build on his last run.

Visor goes on for the first time having on past occasions looked a rather hard ride. The effect of the blinkers worn for the first time when winning at Lingfield in March appears to be wearing off now; suited by having the run of the race.

Yet to win on turf or for that matter in a handicap but he showed that he could prosper in both spheres when running well over C&D last time. Came across an improving sort there but managed to finish clear of the rest; runs off same mark here.

Very strange that he didn't wear his usual visor when attempting to follow up a comeback win at Doncaster last time (6f, soft). Form in a visor reads 1231 (now reapplied) and that may allow him tom bounce back to his Ripon winning form off 5lb lower.

Trainer has made a good start to the season although this one doesn't look to be improving as he makes his third start of the year. Blinkers now tried for the first time taking on his elders; others make more appeal.

Course winner (5f, good) but he's failed to match that form in subsequent starts and ran well below form on his first start this year. Hard to build a case for him here on his recent outings.

Forecasts

Logi (7/2), Kingofmerrows (9/2), Cosmic Chatter (5/1), Ninjago (11/2), Havana Star (13/2), Branscombe (8/1), Danehill Desert (10/1), Fortunate Vision (10/1), Nuns Walk (10/1), Uncle Charlie (10/1), Aprovado (20/1)

Verdict

Quite a few options here but Ninjago may just need a little more help from the handicapper before he’s winning again and the same could be said for Nuns Walk. Fortunate Vision now has the visor back on and that raises hopes that he’ll return to his best with Uncle Charlie respected on his second run of the year despite his stable not really firing as yet. Logi is another to consider but COSMIC CHATTER looks ready to strike again given his eye-catching run last time out at Pontefract. Now 4lb below his last winning mark if he gets the run of the race here he’s scheduled to go close.
  1. Cosmic Chatter
  2. Fortunate Vision
  3. Uncle Charlie
