Fair efforts in two maidens so far, yard have a terrific record in this contest recently with three wins in seven years. Should be in there pitching.

Improved effort on second start from Camelot colt when runner-up over 1m2f at Leicester on heavy ground recently. Should be fitter for that outing and yard in form (5-23).

Lawman colt cost £155,000 and makes plenty of appeal as a long term prospect on pedigree. Upped in trip here after fair effort recently at Newbury over a mile. More to come.

Raven's Pass gelding showed some hints of promise on debut at Newbury over a mile last month, goes up in trip and capable of doing better.

Has run well enough in two AW starts without getting off the mark, probably has to improve for the switch to turf in order to score in this line-up.

Ran in three sprints last year, tackled a mile at Wetherby recently on debut for this trainer and upped once more in journey now. Hard to make case for on evidence to date.

Runner-up in both starts as a two-year-old, both coming over a mile. Returns from a break tackling new trip and should have more to offer this season. Noted.

Paco Boy filly, didn't beat a rival in two starts last summer and not hard to overlook on return to action.

Forecasts

Argentello (11/10), Baritone (4/1), Howman (11/2), Infrastructure (6/1), Chief Ironside (14/1), Soldier To Follow (14/1), Moon of Baroda (33/1), Heart Of Soul (50/1), Rockesbury (150/1), Snoop (150/1)

Verdict

HOWMAN made a fair start at Newmarket last month, taking a while to really get into top gear before staying on to take third spot. He's open to plenty improvement and is a marginal call in open race. John Gosden has an enviable record in this race, ensuring Argentello has to go on any shortlist and he's already shown up well in both starts. Baritone and Soldier To Follow are others of note.
  1. Howman
  2. Argentello
  3. Soldier To Follow
