Improved from debut to win a Lingfield maiden when last seen but entitled to need the run having not been seen for well over a year and no easy to task to give weight to most of these rivals.

Narrowly beaten on debut at Lingfield but made no mistake when getting up with a bit in hand at Wolverhampton last time. Sets a solid standard but has a lengthy absence to overcome.

4/6
Pivotal colt, cost 90,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to top hurdler Nichols Canyon and dam a half-sister to Group 3 winner. Ran well on debut at Windsor in July. That form taken a few knocks since but looks sure to improve and not discounted.

Well beaten on debut in a bumper and beaten a similar distance when third of five at Fontwell last time. This could be more her type of test given her pedigree but has a fair bit to prove at present.

100/1
Rip Van Winkle gelding, cost £7,000 at the sales last year. Half-brother to two winners over similar trips and dam a half-sister to a German Group 1 winner over 1m4f. Beaten out of sight on debut and perhaps best watched for now.

Has already won two bumpers but showed very little on his sole Flat outing at Chester last time. May not have the speed for this test, yard a little quiet and entitled to need the run.

50/1
Power filly, cost €10,000 as a yearling. Dam a winner over a similar trip and half-sister to pattern level performer Icon Dream. Well beaten when unfancied on debut at Pontefract towards the end of last year but more needed here.

Cuckoo's Calling140
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-11| J: K Stott| T: J D Bethell
13/2
Won two bumpers towards the back end of last year but showed very little on Flat debut at Newcastle. Trip possibly on the sharp side for her and needs to improve.
Beaten out of sight when 100/1 on debut at Newcastle in March. Would need immense improvement to figure.

Forecasts

Fujaira Prince (4/6), Genetics (7/2), Cuckoo's Calling (13/2), Long John Silver (10/1), Keswick (16/1), Scottsdale (25/1), Helioblu Bareliere (40/1), Bittersweet (50/1), Rip Van Go (100/1), Late For The Sky (100/1)

Verdict

Roger Varian would appear to have found FUJAIRA PRINCE a nice opportunity here in a very winnable race and the gelding showed plenty of ability on debut. Keswick and Long John Silver aren't discounted but both have lengthy absences to overcome if they are to trouble the likely favourite.
  1. Fujaira Prince
  2. Long John Silver
  3. Keswick
