Generally best suited by racing in this grade, winning similar contests at Sedgefield (2m4f) and Wetherby (2m3f+) in the early part of 2017. Not kept the best of form since winning a 2m2f+ Market Rasen handicap in November.
Kelso winner in October 2017 (2m good) who ran just about his best race since when finishing 4L third to Ever So Much at Sedgefield latest (2m5f good). Drop in trip/grade will suit, with forecast ground conditions ideal.
Consistent, but has found winning races tough due to an over-inflated handicap mark. Raced mainly on soft ground over the winter, but handles these quicker conditions most effectively, so rates as the obvious one to beat.
Plodded around in the rear on all five starts since returning from a four year absence in January, and quite frankly racing doesn't look his game nowadays at the ripe old age 13. No chance despite the drop in grade.
Not shown a great deal of promise since returned from a 26-month absence in late February, and is now a 12 race maiden. Eased in grade on quicker ground, but faces a mightily stiff task on these terms.
Most effective on Tapeta, but a largely promising career has been slowed by a tendency to break blood vessels. His current trainer took a chance on him, but pulled up on hurdles debut in December, the drop into this grade is telling.
A maiden after 13 starts and hasn't threatened to change that in four starts since returning from a 21-month absence. Had breathing issues in the past, so readily dismissed.
In solid form over fences during the summer of 2016 (including over 2m4f at this track). However, has raced just once since June 2016, so couldn't be considered a likely contender on hurdles debut aged 12.
1-64 under rules and that win was back in August 2014. Couldn't possibly be considered even allowing for the grade of race. No chance on handicap ratings.
Unconvincing sort who isn't a fluent hurdler. No sign of wind surgery proving beneficial at Market Rasen in March (2m4f+ good to soft), so highly likely to be a 19 race maiden after tonight.
On a downward spiral after losing his way over fences, but did run well in this grade at Catterick in December (2m good to soft) when a 1¼L runner up to Shalamzar. No track/ground issues, but others stronger.
Ageing five time hurdles winner who tried chasing (unsuccessfully) last summer at Cartmel. Goes best on decent (good) ground over this sort of trip, but off since early November, so others rate as far more likely contenders.
Flat winner for Andrew Balding in April 2017 (1m3f+), but showed little under different styles of riding on his first two hurdles starts and refused to race in a Southwell jumpers' bumper latest.
Forecasts
Applesandpierres (4/6), Newstart (3/1), Mr Snoozy (6/1), Smart Ruler (12/1), Rock N'stones (28/1), Roman Numeral (33/1), Genres (33/1), Fighting Back (40/1), Odds On Dan (50/1), Herecomesnelson (50/1), Investigation (125/1), Raifteiri (250/1), Atlas Peak (250/1)
A sizeable turnout for the seller with options just about exhausted for plenty of these runners, and connections seemingly keen to try and move horses on. The top trio in the weights should have this race between them, with Mr Snoozy the first overlooked for win purposes on account of the 2m trip. Conditions should prove ideal for Newstart to put his best foot forward for Malton handler Brian Ellison, but that is equally true for the consistent APPLESANDPIERRES who is 125 rated (over-inflated), but should still have too much ability for these rivals tonight.
