Not won for nearly two years and two underwhelming efforts so far this year. Wind operation showed no positive effect last time but is starting to drop to a very dangerous mark and no surprise to see a better effort sooner rather than later.

Peak efforts have tended to come on the Fibresand at Southwell and questions to answer back on this surface after a tame effort at Kempton last time.

Bounced back to form with a solid effort on Windsor (1m, heavy) on reappearance. Squeezed up 2lbs in the weights for that effort but has race fitness on side and may try and pinch this from the front.

Won three times on the turf last year. Two runs so far this year have been below that but that may have put him spot on now and hard to discount with rider claiming a handy 7lbs.

Both his wins have been on the AW but his best turf efforts have come with cut in the ground so conditions should be no problem. Needs to improve on what he produced last year to be winning this mind.

Two poor efforts in handicaps so far this year and mark is tumbling as a result. Has been a bit awkward in the past and may just be that he is best watched until showing a bit more.

Five runs on turf last year. Made handicap debut at Lingfield (1m4f, AW) four weeks ago and sent of favourite. Looked a tad short of pace that day so drop back in trip is a worry but ground conditions should be fine.

Forecasts

Harlequin Striker (3/1), Sir Roderic (3/1), Outofthequestion (10/3), Clovelly Bay (5/1), Fast And Hot (6/1), Sonnetist (17/2), Insomniac (10/1), Enmeshing (40/1)

Verdict

Sir Roderick would be a danger to all if returning to anything like his best and is lurking on a dangerous mark. Harlequin Striker returned to form at Windsor last time and could make a bold bid from the front. Slight preference is for FAST AND HOT who has had a couple of runs to get him spot on and his rider claims a valuable 7lbs.
  1. Fast And Hot
  2. Sir Roderic
  3. Harlequin Striker
