Drew a blank last year but definitely starting to look favourably handicapped. Not at his best on return last time when sent off 3/1 but rarely at his best on his first start back and can improve on that.
It had looked like his time for near before he struck at Newmarket last time out, in a handicap that looks strong (runner-up has won since). Up 6lb but should run very well again here.
Not at his best last two runs but they can perhaps be forgiven as they were last/first efforts of respective campaigns. Consistent prior to that (albeit off a lower mark), and one to consider here on that form.
C&D winner who has taken a hit from the handicapper for winning as he liked at Wolverhampton last time out, but ran so well there that he can't be ruled out of following up on his return to turf.
A winner off this mark two starts ago and has form over this C&D, and while he's usually best first time out the 66 day break since his last run should allow him to go well.
Has established himself as a specialist over this trip and it was impossible not to be impressed with his manner of victory last time out, though this looks tougher and he's been put up 7lb.
Winner of a conditions race last season but hasn't won a handicap since August 2015, and tough to see that changing here.
Back down to his most recent winning handicap mark and had been running well in similar races to this at the back-end of last season. Wouldn't want any further rain but holds major claims if the ground holds up.
Well-beaten by Mjjack last time out and though his reopposing rival is up in the weights, he remains on the same mark and the draw will do him no favours.
Won off this mark at Doncaster last summer and this is his best trip, but his form since has left plenty to be desired.
All winning form for this yard has come over shorter than this, but won frequently over this trip for his previous yard. This is an appealing mark and he may well go close.
Consistent sort who isn't handicapped beyond winning any kind of race, but in this company may lack the necessary class to match the very best of these.
Forecasts
Mjjack (13/8), Calder Prince (9/2), Lualiwa (7/1), Robero (10/1), Get Knotted (11/1), Safe Voyage (14/1), Firmament (16/1), Burnt Sugar (16/1), Medieval (16/1), Amazour (20/1), Bertiewhittle (25/1), Rene Mathis (40/1)
A competitive enough affair, where it may pay to look beyond the obvious last time out winners, for all that Mjjack caught the eye last time out. GET KNOTTED wouldn't want any further rain but looks well handicapped on his best form and it looked like his turn could be near in a number of good races towards the end of last season. Similarly, Firmament looks on an appealing mark and though he was well-beaten last time he usually improves for his first run of the year.
- Get Knotted
- Firmament
- Mjjack
