C&D winner who was generally in good form as a juvenile despite disappointing on his last start in Listed company. All his wins came at this trip on soft ground so he'll be at home in the conditions; 6lb above last winning mark.

Start the season with a new yard having won two minor events over 5f last year when with Richard Hannon. Now gelded he'll look more at home in handicaps than the Listed race he ended his season in; handicap debut.

Won a minor event over C&D last year before trying 6f twice and not really seeing the trip out. Already off the mark this year on his seasonal debut on the AW showing improved form to win off 7lb lower; ought to be involved here.

6f on heavy ground appeared to suit him well when taking his final race of last season. Now reappears over 5f for his handicap debut having changed hands for £30,000 guineas (same trainer); interesting on handicap debut.

From a yard that do well with their sprinters she appeared to run above herself on a couple of occasions after winning a York nursery over 5f. Considerably higher in the handicap now than when wining that race she can cope with this mark.

A debut winner as a juvenile that remains his sole win although he ended the season in good form (6f looked too far on his last start). Likely to strip fitter here having had a pipe opener over 5f on the AW already and not badly handicapped.

Made his return in far from ideal conditions over nearly 6f (testing ground) at Bath recently. Didn't need to be at his best for his AW win over 5f and now makes his handicap debut back to that trip although could do with drier conditions.

Ended his season like a few of these in Listed company but found that pay grade too tough. Did win twice last year though over 5f (good ground both times) and may appreciate a better surface making his second handicap start for a new yard.

Improved on her previous runs when taking a Redcar handicap over 6f off a much lower mark that this. Did prove that she was up almost up to this grade though when taking the runner-up slot on her last run; 5f may prove a little sharp.

An absence and the soft ground appeared to be the two things that found him wanting when he was last seen in October. His win came over 5f on good ground and it may be that he'll need those conditions to score again as he makes his handicap debut.

Achieved very little on his first two starts but now gelded his reappearance run on the AW showed an awful lot more. Slowly away on that occasion he ran on well to snatch the runner-up slot; now has to repeat that making his handicap debut on turf.

A hood is now applied for the first time as he makes his debut for a new yard having proved a consistent sort without being able to win last year. Now makes his second handicap start and could show more but has been expensive to follow so far.

Forecasts

Savalas (4/1), Requinto Dawn (5/1), Little Boy Blue (11/2), Excellent Times (6/1), Showmethedough (7/1), John Kirkup (8/1), Billy Dylan (12/1), Lord Riddiford (12/1), Palmer (16/1), Chatburn (20/1), Primo's Comet (25/1), Angel Force (25/1)

Verdict

Three-year-old handicaps are never easy to work out but Michael Dods has been the man to follow in this one winning two of the last four and he runs C&D winner John Kirkup here. Savalas is another C&D winner who has already scored this year and looks as though he can cope with a higher mark this time around. Excellent Times should be winning races this year but may find this trip a little sharp and the vote goes to REQUINTO DAWN who has had run this year and is likely to be sharper for that experience.
  1. Requinto Dawn
  2. Savalas
  3. John Kirkup
