Irish raider who was denied the hat-trick by Crosshue Boy at Leopardstown last month (2m1f yielding), but should be suited stepping back up in trip today. Runner up at Perth on a previous crossing of the Irish Sea.

Beaten off a 2lb lower mark at Musselburgh last month (2m1f), but was only caught close home by Celtic Flames and had appeared to be a progressive horse prior. Room for improvement with his fencing.

Possibly didn't quite live up to expectations over hurdles, and didn't appear to stay on handicap debut over 2m4f (soft) at Sandown in February. Switched to fences on better ground, so we'll see how he handles this new assignment.

No victory yet in three starts over rules fences, but went close on heavy ground at Uttoxeter in December (2m4f) when worn down close home by Newberry New. Something amiss next time (dropped out tamely), so needs to bounce back after wind surgery.

Had wind surgery since leaving the care of Oliver Sherwood, and probably better than the bare form of his latest start at Warwick (2m5f maiden hurdle). From a chasing family, so entirely possible he'll progress over fences.

Set to follow up his Carlisle hurdles success (May 2017) when taking a heavy fall at the final flight at Hexham in early October. Taken time to get over that experience, and produced no show on chase debut in December. Tongue tied.

Runner up over a similar trip at Wincanton in late October, but has fallen on both subsequent starts (on the premises). Returns from a short break of three months with his jumping under the microscope.

Made the frame at Warwick (2m5f soft) in March 2017, but that was a fairly remote third placed finish, and he's hardly set the world alight since. Tackles fences for the first time, so that needs to be the catalyst for a step forward.

Maiden, but did manage to finish in the frame three times at this track for previous trainer Will Kinsey. Ran well on chasing debut at Ludlow in February (2m), beaten just a neck, with his wind tinkered with more recently.

Won just once in 30 career starts (hurdle), and those who've seen him in action on a racecourse will be well aware of his quirky character. Falling in the weights, but not a horse to rely upon in the slightest.

Forecasts

Go West Young Man (9/2), Road To Rome (9/2), Kapcorse (6/1), Middlebrow (15/2), Glenforde (15/2), Fenlon's Hill (8/1), Mankala (10/1), Farm The Rock (12/1), Broom Tip (12/1), Monsieur Arkadin (25/1), Zalgarry (25/1)

Verdict

Both Fenlon's Hill and Middlebrow have progressed quickly over fences and bring the strongest recent form into this contest. The former should appreciate the step back up in trip as he seeks to record a third success in four starts, whilst the latter promises to be suited by this flat track. However, there are others who could improve upon their previous form having undergone recent wind surgery, including the chasing debutante Mankala, and the Kim Bailey trained Glenforde. That said, it is the Oliver Sherwood trained ROAD TO ROME who rates as a speculative selection having shown decent enough form at this track in the past for Will Kinsey.
  1. Road To Rome
  2. Fenlon's Hill
  3. Middlebrow
