Arakan gelding, cost €8,000 as a yearling. Half-brother to Italian winner and dam a maiden. Others bring more attractive pedigrees into the race and not a good sign he's already been gelded.

Invincible Spirit colt, cost 280,000 gns as a yearling. Related to Group-placed juvenile and dam related to Group 1 winner Opera House and the multiple Group 1 winning stayer Kayf Tara. Holds Guineas and Derby entries and can't be ruled out here.
Declaration Of War gelding, cost 50,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to two winners and dam a full-sister to a Listed winner and half-sister to a US Grade 1 winner. Nice pedigree but already gelded and yard not synonymous with first-time winners.

Iffraaj colt, cost €55,000 as a foal and 210,000 gns as a yearling. Brother or half-brother to five winners including Group placed Musharakaat (7f). Plenty to like on paper but yard form is a slight concern by their own lofty standards.

Dubawi gelding, half-brother to a dirt winner and dam a maiden but half-sister to two-time Grade 1 winner Country Star around similar trips. Not a good sign he's already had a gelding operation, particularly for this outfit.

Dutch Art colt, cost 50,000 gns as a foal and €110,000 as a yearling. Half-brother to five winners including two pattern level performers. Yard have started the season in fine form and had a winner here already this week. Worth a market check.

Scat Daddy colt, cost €480,000 as a yearling. Nice blend of speed and stamina in pedigree, brother to a sprint winner. Dam a winner over this trip and a half-sister to a Listed winner over further. Makes plenty of appeal but Dettori picks Surya.

Galileo colt, cost €105,000 as a yearling. Full-brother to a winner over a mile and dam a half-sister to Breeders' Cup mile winner. Beautifully bred and yard's only runner in recent weeks was a Group 3 winner in France. Market should be informative.

Fastnet Rock colt, cost 150,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to two winners and dam a Listed winner over this trip. Yard debutantes typically need their first run but they have had a debut winner already here this week and can't be ruled out.

100/1
Lope De Vega colt, cost €27,000 as a Breeze-Up purchase. Half-brother to four winners (over shorter) and dam a sprint winner. This test may stretch his stamina on debut and while yard's debutantes have been forward this year, others are preferred.

Galileo filly, sister to four winners (over further) and dam a Listed winner and sister to a Japenese Group 1 winner. Pedigree suggests she will be better suited to further and while the yard are going well, other make more appeal. Entered in Oaks.

Forecasts

Military Band (5/1), Surya (5/1), Karaginsky (11/2), Mister Ambassador (8/1), King Lud (14/1), Dragon Moon (14/1), Cogital (16/1), Prabeni (16/1), Here's Alice (16/1), Monoxide (16/1), Gift Of Raaj (16/1), Dive For Gold (16/1), Sawwaah (25/1), Rock Force (25/1), Decoration Of War (66/1), Epic Challenge (66/1), Mirbat (66/1), Zain City (100/1), Boxatricks (150/1)

Verdict

John Gosden may not have won this since 2009 but SURYA is one of three of the trainer's runners that may be able to end that run and he could hardly have a more eye-catching pedigree given he's by Frankel and dam was a dual Oaks winner. Godolphin won last year's renewal of this and given that Saeed Bin Suroor's yard can ready one for debut, Military Band makes some appeal. Dragon Moon is another well bred sort for a yard respected with debutantes.
  1. Surya

  3. Dragon Moon
