Soon beaten on return from two-year absence at Wexford last month and hard to get a gauge on how much of the old ability remains on that evidence. Getting on in years too and probably safest to adopt cautious approach.

Fire In His Eyesb1,t29
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-11| J: Rachael Blackmore| T: G Elliott| OR:  124| BF| C
12/1
Sequence of runner-up finishes in good novice/beginner chases stands at four now, gets first-time blinkers added here and Lisa O'Neill is a strong ally in this contest. One of two for leading trainer.

Sunsetstorisep,t125
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-8| J: Ms N Carberry| T: G Elliott| OR:  121| C
5/2
Dual course winner in 2016, won at Navan last March and no problems following up after switching to this trainer over same 2m1f trip. Up 14lb for that effort but more improvement expected.

Artic Pearlt24
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: Miss E A Lalor(5)| T: M Brassil| OR:  112| BF
11/2
Poised to challenge when hampered and unseated rider in a Thurles handicap chase last month and could well have followed up an earlier win at Leopardstown. Another bold show looks likely.

Flemenstormh,t25
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-13| J: Katie O'Farrell(7)| T: E Cawley| OR:  112| CD
13/2
Suffering from second-itis of late, settling for runner-up berth on last three starts. Two of those over fences behind Nicole's Milan (narrowly here) and Sunsetstorise (decisively at Navan) and may struggle to reverse form even on revised terms.
6
Horse silk
Positive Approach25
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-13| J: Jodie Townend(7)| T: J J Walsh| OR:  112| D
25/1
Two-time winner over hurdles but yet to make any impression over fences and very disappointing on most recent starts. Unlikely to play a part in the finish.

Nicole's Milan62
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-11| J: Miss A B O'Connor(7)| T: S Aherne| OR:  110| C
5/1
Only three starts over fences, off the mark last time when showing good attitude to fend off Flemenstorm over 2m5f here on testing ground, up 8lb for narrow success but retains scope for further improvement.
8

Skellig Rocksb,t39
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-10| J: Ms G Andrews(3)| T: A L T Moore| OR:  109
16/1
Yet to open account in nine starts over fences but some good efforts last spring and another positive show at Leopardstown last month (2m5½f, yielding) when close up in third having hit the front two out. Good pilot on board, runs from same mark.

Horse silk
Larry Capri139
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-7| J: Ms K Ferris(7)| T: D A McLoughlin| OR:  106| C
16/1
Won a 3m handicap chase at Fairyhouse in January 2017 but generally failing to fire since that. Others hold stronger profiles.
10
Horse silk
Mtada Supreme65
Age: 13|  Weight: 10-6| J: Miss B Smith(5)| T: P Maher| OR:  105
25/1
Teenager, won a 3m Punchestown handicap chase from a mark of 111 in November, toiling in Cross Country races twice since, liable to find a few of these too good.

Horse silk
Rightback Atyap80
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-5| J: Miss J Walton(7)| T: P J Rothwell| OR:  104
20/1
Career-best when running away with a 0-102 rated handicap at Navan in January (3m, heavy). Looked set to follow up here under 12lb more when coming down at the last. This is a tougher race and has gone up in the ratings again despite the mishap.

Horse silk
Hawk Eye Downp,t39
Age: 9|  Weight: 9-10| J: Miss J M Cook(7)| T: Paul Power| OR:  95| BF
16/1
Races prominently, scored at Thurles in February, favourite for a stronger contest at Leopardstown last month but unable to sustain effort when push came to shove. Just a fourth start over fences now, so entitled to have learned from that defeat.

Witness Of Fashionp39
Age: 12|  Weight: 9-10| J: Miss E McCutcheon(7)| T: P Rooney| OR:  95| C
16/1
Some useful form in the bank, behind Nicole's Milan here in February, then all out to win next time at Leopardstown (2m5½f, yielding). Up in the weights for that success and may find one or two of these are too good.

Forecasts

Sunsetstorise (5/2), Nicole's Milan (5/1), Artic Pearl (11/2), Flemenstorm (13/2), Fire In His Eyes (12/1), Hawk Eye Down (16/1), Witness Of Fashion (16/1), Larry Capri (16/1), Skellig Rocks (16/1), Rightback Atya (20/1), Positive Approach (25/1), Mtada Supreme (25/1), Los Amigos (28/1)

Verdict

The Gordon Elliott pair Fire In His Eyes and SUNSETSTORISE could cut out most of the running here in the early stages with Rightback Atya and Hawk Eye Down racing prominently in behind. The selection was very impressive on his first start for a year when landing a Navan handicap chase over 2m1f last month and is expected to improve once more. Unlucky loser Artic Pearl and Nicole's Milan can grab a place.
  1. Sunsetstorise
  2. Artic Pearl
  3. Nicole's Milan
