Good-ground maiden winner at Navan this time last year, beaten around 8L on recent return at same track (1m, heavy). No shock if he comes on for the run, as the yards' runners often do, and claim in the saddle helps.
Three wins last year and only 2lb above previous winning mark, has been off eight months now and some questions on getting through conditions here having been poor at Galway on soft in August.
Former C&D winner, was out of sorts on final start for former trainer when last spotted at Dundalk on the AW in October. Has turf form to be considered in first-time hood now for new yard and worth a betting check.
Can be given a chance on the best of his British form from current mark, though has had some chances on the AW at Dundalk since joining this yard and, when supported, not able to take them.
Seven-race maiden, has run with real purpose on turf before and, if fit for return, seemingly gets on well with champion jockey and could be a player.
Consistent sort with solid record on turf (8-43, 11 placed efforts) managed just one win from eight in 2017 on grass, over this trip on good ground at the Curragh. Rated 5lb lower here and handles any ground. Likely to be about when it matters.
Choisir gelding is likeable and consistent, unable to get head in front last year in nine runs but often in the mix. Mark is dropping to very workable level, perhaps will be better on decent ground however.
Losing sequence is a long one now, dating back to 2015, appears to have regressed on most recent form and others appeal more.
Came home at walking pace over a mile here on Saturday having weakened from around halfway. Yet to show best form in three starts for this trainer after winning 1m claimer at Gowran (heavy) in September.
Lightly-raced Vale Of York gelding, improved with each of three maiden outings on AW at Dundalk over 6f/7f. Goes handicapping from a fair mark if handling the forecast conditions on first turf run.
Course winner around this time last year, acts on heavy ground and fit from AW racing, fair effort in 1m big-field handicap here on Saturday when finishing in midfield, beaten around 5L. More required.
Didn't run badly at Naas over 5f on final start of 2017, this trip is more his thing and went close at Fairyhouse (7f, heavy) on penultimate outing from this rating.
Turf winner at Wetherby last summer over a mile, that came on good to firm ground and questionable if he'll be as comfortable on this sticky surface. 3lb higher than previous turf winning mark.
Winner over a mile here last June on yielding to soft ground from this mark, also landed a Dundalk AW claimer in February and fit from exploits in that sphere. Entitled to have a say.
Forecasts
Tribal Path (4/1), Prove The Point (11/2), So You Thought (6/1), Alcatraz (13/2), Settle For Red (10/1), Nothing To Lose (10/1), Luna's Luck (10/1), High Altitude (10/1), Bainne (12/1), Korbous (14/1), Dinkum Diamond (20/1), Secret Memories (20/1), Harry Speed (20/1), Empress Lyla (25/1)
Lightly-raced handicap debutant Luna's Luck certainly can be given claims on his AW maiden form but this will be a completely different test on heavy going and, on that basis, he's opposable. So You Thought should improve for his reappearance for the Weld team while Settle For Red and High Altitude are others to make the shortlist. HARRY SPEED ran well enough over an inadequate 5f when last spotted and, with form over this trip on testing ground, is given a chance with Wayne Lordan booked.
- Harry Speed
- Settle For Red
- So You Thought
