Horse A-Z
Mayson colt who cost £10,000 as a yearling. Related to a couple of winners and no reason he shouldn't go well on debut.

Morpheus colt who cost €16,000 as a yearling. Related to a few winners at two and is one to consider here.

€38,000 yearling but is bred to be better over further in time and also wears both a hood and visor on debut.

7/2
Morpheus colt who cost €22,000 as a yearling. Related to a few winners over sprint distances, and jockey booking is a positive.

Casamento colt who cost €10,000 as a yearling. Dam won over 5f but her other progeny have tended to do better over further than this.

Vocalised colt who has been fitted with a tongue strap for this debut run. This trainer often does well with juveniles this time of year (including in this race).

20/1
Excelebration filly who cost €7,000 as a yearling. Half-brother won a maiden over C&D, but pedigree emphasis isn't entirely on speed.

Merida
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-0| J: S Foley| T: A Leahy
12/1
Gregorian filly who cost 800gns as a foal. That price tag is hardly inspiring, and this yard not really associated with success in these contests.
Filly by the precocious Tough As Nails, though her dam's other progeny have been seen to best effect over a minimum of 6f.

Forecasts

Son Of Beauty (5/4), Joza (7/2), Backpfeifengesicht (9/2), Falcon Knight (8/1), Merida (12/1), Pride Of Pimlico (20/1), Engles Rock (20/1), Deep House (25/1), Meryems Way (50/1)

Verdict

As usual at this very early point in the year there's no form at all to go on here so the market may prove very informative. The booking of Pat Smullen for JOZA catches the eye, and his pedigree suggests he may well appreciate this trip on debut. Others to consider for this opening race of the season include Son Of Beauty, especially given Jim Bolger's record in this race, and Deep House.
  1. Joza
  2. Son Of Beauty
  3. Deep House
