Winner on third start at Southwell having shown some promise in two starts at Newcastle. Others bring stronger form to the table and may struggle to reverse form with First Contact from his debut.
Impressive winner on debut and excellent run when runner-up at Kempton last time, front two pulling 8L clear of the remainder. Winner, third and fifth have all franked the form since and he will be hard to beat here despite conceding weight to many.
Landed Thirsk novice auction stakes on second start last July then went close at Newmarket seven weeks later. Disappointing on return at Chelmsford but not discounted if he strips fitter for that run.
Mayson colt, cost £35,000 as a yearling. Pedigree all speed and this looks a tough ask on debut.
In need of his debut run but knew his job when runner-up at Newcastle last time. While that was encouraging, he needs to have improved over the winter to play a part here.
Rip Van Winkle gelding, cost 4,500 gns as a yearling. Well beaten on debut at Thirsk and quite possibly best watched for now.
Has shown some promise in three starts to date but disappointed as favourite at Southwell last month. Can be forgiven that effort but plenty more needed here. Wears first-time hood.
Poet's Voice gelding, half-brother to two useful sprinters and dam a Listed winner over this trip and a half-sister to a Group 1 winner. Makes plenty of appeal on pedigree but gelding operation at this early stage is off-putting.
Harbour Watch gelding, cost €20,000 as a yearling. Half-brother to five sprinters and dam placed in Listed class. May need his debut and not certain to have the stamina for this.
Bated Breath gelding, cost 19,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to three winners and dam a winner over this trip and half-sister to a Listed winner. Yard's debutantes often need their first outing.
Lope De Vega colt, cost £42,000 as a yearling and £115,000 as a Breeze-Up purchase. Dam a winner and half-sister to Listed winner Wild Wind. Didn't improve from his debut when disappointing at York last time but may do better as a three-year-old.
Has shown promise in his four starts to date but beaten favourite last time out and others bring stronger levels of form in to the race.
Lawman colt, cost 72,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to Group 3 runner-up Make Time and dam a half-sister to Group 2 winner Overdose. Showed plenty on debut when runner-up behind a smart type and will improve for the step up in trip.
Forecasts
First Contact (10/11), Prevent (3/1), Brisk Tempo (10/1), Tilghman (16/1), Assimile (16/1), Stealth (16/1), Pacific Fleet (25/1), Rockies Spirit (28/1), Ashlar (33/1), Safrani (33/1), Robsdelight (66/1), Rolladice (66/1), Gabriel's Oboe (100/1)
FIRST CONTACT will be hard to beat here with not only experience on his side, he also bring a very useful level of form in to the race. Tilghman should improve from his debut last time out while Rockies Spirit may come on for his comeback run last time.
