Comes from a family full of winners and maintained that tradition when making most to score on his Kempton debut. The third has let the form down since and connections of the runner-up now have African Jazz in this.

Cape Cross half-brother to the smart Usherette and also Listed winner Show Day. Stable have been hoovering up these novice events in recent weeks and have a good line on the topweight therefore the market should be informative.

Produced an eye-catching run last time and is bred to appreciate middle-distances in 2018. Stable have had a recent winner and he has to go on the shortlist.

Possible to blame the gallop for a turgid effort last time but the fitting of cheekpieces suggest his problems lie elsewhere. This looks a more serious test than last time and he looks opposable.

Mastercraftsman half-sister to a 7f winner in the US and out of a well-related dam. Stable can ready one first time but pedigree suggests this may be further than she needs.

Dubawi filly out of John Oxx's Irish Oaks runner-up Roses For The Lady. Made her debut here in a bad race when she looked green following a poor start. Will have learnt plenty and the longer trip will help.

Verdict

Charlie Appleby has won plenty of novice races in recent weeks and can do so again with AFRICAN JAZZ. There is much to like about his pedigree and he receives plenty of weight from Mercer's Troop. Archie Watson is another trainer who has had a good winter but the son of Canford Cliffs dictated his own tempo when scoring on debut and the form has been let down. A bigger threat may come from Whispering Sands who has a lovely pedigree and caught the eye on debut. Artarmon should come into his own now tackling this sort of trip and he rates the best of the rest.
  1. African Jazz
  2. Whispering Sands
  3. Mercer's Troop
