Drops 2lb and into a slightly less competitive contest than when 17½L third in a Huntingdon novices' handicap chase (2m7½f, soft) last time out. Headgear now fitted for the first time and there are reasons to be optimistic about a better effort.

8lb lower here than when winning a Wincanton chase (3m1f, soft) two seasons ago in good style. Has had his problems since then, but was beaten just 1L from this mark at Leicester in January and not ruled out if jumping holds up.

Was runner-up from both 1lb lower and 1lb higher in successive races in the autumn. Acts on soft ground and may be better suited by this return to shorter after trying 3m at Bangor last time. Should be thereabouts.

Meets Shockingtimes on same terms as when finishing a neck behind him at Leicester (2m5½f, soft) in January. Should again be little to choose between the two, though connections opt for headgear in a bid to bounce back from his latest effort.

11lb higher today than when scoring over C&D in December by 3L (good to soft). Has improved on that without winning in three subsequent runs from this mark, so needs to raise his game to add a second career success.

Arrives in tremendous form and has risen 20lb for his four-timer, over trips from 2m4f-3m. Latest 5lb rise will demand more, but still improving and still looks possible that he could find the necessary to complete a nap hand.

Forecasts

Iskabeg Lane (1/1), The Ogle Gogle Man (10/3), Shockingtimes (5/1), Shanty Town (6/1), Knocknamona (15/2), Mr Love (8/1)

Verdict

Cases can be made for most of the field, though the most compelling of them may still be for the obvious KNOCKNAMONA, who is in the form of his life and may still have enough in him to defy his latest 5lb rise. The Ogle Gogle Man could be sparked into a revival in headgear and now dropped to this slightly lower level, while Shanty Town and Iskabeg Lane are respected and Mr Love would be feared if returning to his best.
  1. Knocknamona
  2. The Ogle Gogle Man
  3. Shanty Town
