7/4
Ex-French maiden hurdler, but off the mark in good style over C&D in November. Disappointed on subsequent before running second on two most recent outings. Has penalty to concede all round but looks one for the short list.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-2| J: Danny Cook| T: B Ellison| OR:  119
9/4
Local yard had more than 100 winners at this track in last 5 years alone. Dual winner on Flat in France and placed in 5-6 starts over hurdles for current connections. First-time blinkers may focus his mind and looks a danger.

16/1
Gelded son of classy Youmzain. Raced once in his native Poland on the Flat. Absent 20 months so likely to be better for the outing but worth checking for any market interest in this hurdling debutant.
4
Horse silk
10/1
Four wins on Flat at between 12-16f. Handles most ground conditions. Not knocked about on hurdles bow at Doncaster last month after being hampered at halfway, keeping on to be a distant fifth. Could be better to come.
5
Horse silk
100/1
Won three modest handicaps on Flat between 8-10f. Probably needed run and faced unsuitable ground when well beaten on hurdles bow at Kelso last time. May do better but has something to prove for now.
Showed a glimmer of ability in Irish bumpers for Arthur Moore but has run poorly all three starts for new connections, last two when tailed off over hurdles. Very hard to enthuse over.
7
Horse silk
50/1
One of three stable representatives in this event. Unraced on Flat. Not disgraced in bumper on debut for current yard but struggled with the hurdles at Catterick last time. Still green and probably better once going handicapping.
Brought down in Sedgefield bumper on debut in December, and looked one paced when distant fourth in similar event at Musselburgh latest. Hurdles bow today and may do better for shrewd yard. Not ruled out of it.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-2| J: B S Hughes| T: C GrantWS
12/1
Teofilo gelding who was unraced on the Flat. Fair runner-up in course bumper last May but stopped quickly at halfway on hurdles bow in November. Returns after wind surgery which may help and top rider booked too.
10
Horse silk
66/1
Showed very little in four outings on the Flat for Anthony Carson. Pulled up when well adrift on hurdles bow here last April and has little to recommend him.

Age: 8|  Weight: 11-2| J: J Kington(3)| T: C Grant
33/1
Won 4 times on Flat at up to an extended mile on A/W for Phil Kirby but out of joy in that sphere for current yard. Long in the tooth for recent hurdles bow and looked all at sea, so has it to do.
Unplaced in five Flat starts for Ed Dunlop and showed nothing on first two runs over hurdles for new yard. Just caught when 50/1 runner-up at Wetherby last time in heavy ground though so might be getting the hang of things.

Forecasts

Bulkov (7/4), Bal De Rio (9/4), Titan (9/2), Ingleby Hollow (10/1), Phantom Isle (12/1), Lucky Lucarno (12/1), Excalibur (16/1), Quadriga (33/1), L'etoile (50/1), Placedela Concorde (66/1), Ivors Involvement (100/1), Keepinupwitdjones (100/1)

Verdict

With the first-time blinkers applied this might be the time for BAL DE RIO to get his act together after a series of placed efforts and for a yard that does tremendously well at this venue. On his C&D win two starts ago Bulkov has a major shout and should be in the mix despite his 7lb penalty, and Ingleby Hollow is another contender having caught the eye on his first start over timber four weeks ago. Following his wind op Phantom Isle may do better, and Titan is not ruled out after going close at big odds last time out.
  1. Bal De Rio
  2. Ingleby Hollow
  3. Bulkov
