Won off a similar mark to this around a year ago but hasn't improved for a recent switch back to handicap hurdling and very likely to be past his best given his advancing years.
Had his first race for over five years at the age of 12 in December (beaten 38L). Now 13 and tough to see him return to the level of form that has seen him win six races under rules.
Poor performances the last twice but shaped with promise prior to that. Still 6lb higher than at the time of his last win but may put in a better performance after a break.
Disappointing when a well-beaten favourite on handicap debut at Leopardstown last time. On the same mark as he steps out of novice company and it's difficult to see him getting off the mark following that performance.
Still yet to win under rules and didn't really improve much for the switch to handicaps last time out. Best watched off just 1lb lower.
Still just a maiden hurdle to his name over the smaller obstacles but ran fairly well on his return from chasing last time (rated 17lb higher over fences) and is of some interest in a change of headgear.
Only tenth when sent off favourite of a very open handicap at Leopardstown on Boxing Day. May find this easier (raced wide there) and 1lb drop from the handicapper won't hurt.
Makes his handicap debut here off the back of four solid, but unspectacular runs in maidens. Opening mark doesn't look overly attractive but he should be capable of winning nice handicaps in time.
Never really threatened in bumpers/maiden hurdles but definitely the type to do best now handicapping. Still needs to improve off this opening mark, however.
Only two starts under rules since winning a maiden hurdle in February 2015. Hasn't shown enough in either of those races nor point-to-points to be considered for this.
C&D winner last time out in similar conditions and again at Cork in November. Hasn't actually had that much racing relative to his age, and he only carries 2lb more due to the same jockey claiming a higher allowance; interesting.
Somewhat surprising he is yet to get off the mark given the number of encouraging races he has run. Still very young and should have more improvement in him than most of these.
Down the field in four maiden hurdles so far. Should manage a higher level of form in handicaps in time but has too many questions to answer to be of interest here.
Forecasts
Tout Est Permis (5/2), Randalls Ur Poet (9/2), Champagne Pat (6/1), Mick The Boyo (7/1), Stowaway Forever (8/1), Schmidt (11/1), Wigs On The Green (12/1), Love And Wishes (14/1), Whatever Jacksays (16/1), The Irregular (20/1), Realt Mor (33/1), Samson Bill (33/1), Dontdooddson (33/1)
Schmidt is somewhat interesting on handicap debut but is probably a little too high in the weights to strike on his first attempt in this sphere and preference is for RANDALLS UR POET. As a juvenile he is much younger than most of these but has shaped well without winning throughout his short career so far and it would be no surprise if there is plenty of improvement to come from towards the foot of the weights. In a race where those near the bottom of the card by dominate, Mick The Boyo is a clear danger following his C&D win last time out.
- Randalls Ur Poet
- Mick The Boyo
- Schmidt
